EPnick22
as above, was curious if it was possible or do they not connect the same as the stock pistons? never heard anything about it really so was just curious...
AdamB
Has been done, but kinda pointless, if you've got to strip the engine to put the pistons in, spend an extra £350 on some Scat rods and be bullet proof for a very long time at whatever boost.
EPnick22
say i wanted to just stick new rods and pistons in, would it just be as easy as that? apart from balancing the rods of course but anything else?
AdamB
Well that depends. If you want a blue printed engine thats going to last your going to have to measure the crank journal diameters, measure crank run out, measure rod journal diameters, measure little end diameters, measure piston diameters, measure bore diameters and have them bored to suit each cylinder, the list goes on and on. Or you can chuck them in and hope for the best
EPnick22
having a look at wossner pistons, says they use a floating gudgeon pin that can only be used with the PEC or wossner rods, so how have the standard rods been used before?

AdamB
Believe Wiseco pistons are used. Am sure thats waht the guys over in Jamaica did.
EPnick22
whats the difference? cant you make the oem pins fit? found some wossners for £400 brand new and thought itd be a shame not to buy them
Danb
whats the difference? cant you make the oem pins fit? found some wossners for £400 brand new and thought itd be a shame not to buy them different pistons....
AdamB
Buy them and just by some forged rods as well. Go the whole hog. Edited July 12, 2013 by AdamB
EPnick22
Im not quite in the position to go the whole way, not yet anyway :/
EPnick22
just reading that JE pistons go with the standard rods, theyre £550 which isnt too sad i dont think!!
Asad
ross pistons also fit standard rods, perfectly fine way to go....the zisco guys have ran silly boost this way with a conservative rev limit....there is a 4paw that runs ross pistons and standard rods although i dont know how the engine is now as he doesnt come on much you will always get people saying run forged rods etc etc....the way i see it is for a daily...250bhp is enough for a starlet anything more is silly and just a figure to throw around...its a perfect way to go without breaking the bank for a solid dependable engine....ukso probably has the most forged 4e engines yet they are all still sub 300 and all would still be just as reliable with half the budget...look at what they achieve abroad....puts the forged engines to shame Edited July 13, 2013 by Asad
