If you were to use a pulley and get it all lightened in one go (Crank,flywheel clutch etc etc) Would you A: Lighten and balance a standard solid 5EFE oneB: Use a standard 4EFTE Harmonic one and get it balanced C: Use a fensport lightened pulley and balance it D: Use a lightweight solid alloy one and get it balanced Opinions people please Thanks Quote Link to post Share on other sites
AdamB Posted August 15, 2013 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Use a standard 4EFTE one and get the whole rotating assembly static and dynamically balanced. The Fensport ones are only "Harmonically Balanced" That doesn't say its actually a damper pulley. I don't think there has been any known faults, however it will reduce the life of the thrust bearings. Spuddy ran a lightweight crank pulley on his, but his engine got pulled apart quite often for bearing replacement so can't really compare. That said, how many people do you know replace their ACL bearings at the recommended 30k Km interval? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I thought harmonic ones are dampened?Confused i might ring them tommorow lol And i have never seen anyone replace them at the 30k interval, i wonder why you would have too? AdamB Posted August 15, 2013 Share Posted August 15, 2013 I could well be wrong and they just haven't explained it properly, that's the way it comes across to me anyway as I know harmonic balancing is something to do with frequencies. They recommend changing the bearings at 30k intervals to maintain a good condition crank, remembering its cheaper to replace a set of shells than it is a crank, so it's little cost to pay for something that has such significance. The Toffinator Posted August 28, 2013 Author Share Posted August 28, 2013 Still unsure on what to do with the pulley situation, Struggling to get hold of a decent 4EFTE Harmonic one as my current one is knackered.Surely all the engines that are made without one get away with it fine (5EFES And 4EFES Included) So im thinking it will be okay without it and fitting a lightened one...
