triple j Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Has any one used the standard size pistons in there forge build, i was thinking of using a low mileage 4efe for the job so i can keep my stock as a spare, i dont mind going the next size up along with a rebore, what are your thoughts on this. AdamB Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Personally I would always advise against going the next size up in oversize, simply because its very hard to maintain the close tolerances on a used bore. especially after a hone you may find the bore is too sloppy. Quote
triple j Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 True, i was thinking the hone would have to slightly effect the bore, but again it could still work out fine, some one must of used the standard size pistons. Quote
AdamB Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Am sure there are plenty of people that have, but its just not the way I would do it.Whats your reasoning as to wanting to stay to the stock size bore? Quote
triple j Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 I was just thinking the sell the 74mm so it must work out well enough u no. Quote
Jamie1st Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 As AdamB has said I'd go for the next size up (74.5mm) as it allows you to start with a fresh re-bore. This is the route I took with my build. Quote
AdamB Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 The only reason I would stick to a 74mm bore would be if I was competing and I was trying to get into a certain engine size catergory, other than that rebore everytime. Quote
The Toffinator Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I didnt bore mine as advised by the machine shop. Tolerances were perfect Quote
The Toffinator Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Nope adam standard 74mm, standard bore size honed. So far have zero piston slap etc either and rings etc were perfecto Quote
