akaye4000
Connected up the wire to the tacho wire on the back of the cluster and isn't working is there something else I need to do?its omex 600 Edited December 16, 2013 by akaye4000
jayc-glanza17
im running omex 600..if you hav removed the distributor to use the Omex coil, then that's the problem as the wire is in the distributor.you need an aftermarket tacho gauge which the omex has an output for. akaye4000
Yeah removed the dizzy. Is there no way of getting it to work maybe with a tacho driver.
jayc-glanza17
me and my tuner never pursued that option. be a ball ache and time consuming.far easier with aftermarket tacho gauge.
akaye4000
Wanted to keep the original tacho if possible as only have space for 3 gauges as it is
mi16chris
Stock rpm gauge works off the igf wiring on the ignition module
akaye4000
Don't have that either running an external coil pack
Stu
I don't know anything about the Omex units but a lot of aftermarket ecu's only supply low level signals for the tacho, where as the stock tacho is designed to run of the coil -ve which is high level. In the past I've changed the resistor inside the tacho itself to make it work off the low level signal
akaye4000
Is the resistor easy to get to?
mech5107
For sure things are not that complicated. The stock tach does run from the igf signal, but this is just a square wave signal. You just need to configure the tacho output in the omex software.
akaye4000
It is configured for square wave signal but low not high. Read somewhere you can use a 1k resistor inline and make it work
mech5107
There is usually an option to use either 5v or 12v in the tacho output. I run my ep71 cluster, through my haltech E6X, without any resistor or trick. Just square wave and 12v.
akaye4000
Na there isnt an option for that on an omex says to buy a tacho driver. Which I think is just a resistor
akaye4000
Done it like this and works 1k 0.6w resistor https://www.google.co.uk/search?biw=360&bih=279&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=AsiwUqe3J4Wx0QWh5IBA&q=tacho+pull+up+resistor&oq=tacho+pull+up+resistor&gs_l=mobile-gws-serp.3...26634.40751.0.42316.31.26.4.1.1.1.582.4710.6j13j4j1j1j1.26.0....0...1c.1j4.32.mobile-gws-serp..17.14.1753.Cy48H2kUVmY#biv=i%7C21%3Bd%7CCEIdNj2NKZoAYM%3A Edited December 17, 2013 by akaye4000
