RustyEp91
Hey guysIver read about afancing the timing on the starlet and how it can increase throttle reaponse etcCan anyone point me in the right direction as to how to do this correctly? Thanks
onnaj1000
Advancing timing will gain HP, retarding will increase torque. Some say that a bit extra advancing will be better for the compete rev range, but I can't confirm this. With my Celica I felt no difference with advancing timing. When you advance too much you have the risk of detonating, so better fuel is advised
GP82
Are you thinking about adjusting it via the distributor!? If so you set it to what the manual states for your engine.
mikey4410
its meant to be set at 10° btdc.I would put it to anything but that.jeez
AdamB
No harm in adjusting it, but it needs to be setup properly. I know MX5's respond well to advancing the timing up to around 14 degrees from the base timing.
onnaj1000
Don't know for sure but I think the MX-5 has a knock sensor. Our 4efe don't have one.Would be interesting though to advance timing together with a corolla mani and use 98 ron fuel ;-)
AdamB
The 4efte has a knock sensor. How well it works is another question though.
