In june i plan to take my starlet on its longest journey since i got it, which will be 1000+ miles.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on things i can do to avoid a breakdown en-route?

this will be my first long distance drive as i only passed my test a year ago, so hopefully all will go well.

Any advice appreciated

just think realistically and don't rush your self, have planned stops and just if you need to! its always a good idea to take sum one with you for moral, company and so you don't get board as when you are going long distances its like errr line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line line you get the idea but not only for that its also a good idea for them to drive as well so you can have a bark form just driving

oh and expect the unexpected

Make sure your car is well maintained and check oil, water, brake and other fluids and of course tyre treads and pressures before you leave

Other than that just take it easy enjoy the drive and watch out for other careless motorists and take loads of pics for us :D

It's a starlet..... It will take a hell of a lot to make it break down. At the moment mine has cheapo asda oil in it which it is currently burning at 2 litres a month, Blue smoke comes out when i start it or rag it hard, oil valve seals have pretty much gone and it has a tiny oil leak. Plus it's done 93k. AND still it runs fine..ish and still pulls hard just as i like it.

Your probably thinking im nuts but im getting a new 4EFTE turbo engine put in shortly.

If you havn't been on the motorway before or very little then like people said take you time. Vision is everything. If you don't look properly when changing lanes especially in your blind spot then your gonna end up with a big smash. My dad takes the piss about how careful i am at changing lanes.

Motorway driving is extremely easy as you dont have to look out for people crossing the road or people pulling out of a side road. The hardest bit is coming on when no fecker will move out the way to get on.

I'll have to do this once my car is sorted as i love it too. Have fun matey.

Sounds good bourkey, and your right about how durable they are, mine had a smashed radiator when i got it and it still ran fine till i found it. only difference was the heater seemed to work better, althouth the temperature gauge never went over half way.

Now i know the fuel gauge is unreliable but twice, How'd you manage that...

My gauge goes down like slow...fast...slow...fast...hits bottom line and keeps going below, i filled it right up from the bottom line once and only managed to put 30 litres in it... its a 45L tank...
