Quick question can anyone tell me when my block is top dead centre should my outside pistons 1 and 4 be at the top of the block or is it 2 and 3 pistons that are the top? Flaminsam Posted August 30, 2016 Share Posted August 30, 2016 Yup 1+4. Rule of thumb timing is done with number 1 piston at tdc. Some engines (not starlets) have the Pistons half way down the bore for timing belt/chain changes. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
