  1. I've heard 180bhp is as far as you can go and still have some reliability. Hybrid CT9's claim 230+ but as far as I can see they are usually out of their efficiency range by around 190-195bhp, depending on the make. I saw a guy claiming 220bhp on Gumtree with his stock CT9, think he had an exhaust and an intercooler. 220bhp? Me thinks not.

  2. F1 cars rebuild their engines often and blow them up sevral times a seaon! The also rev to excess of 16000rpm. Also drift teams have insanely deep pockets and several spare engines. They also both have complex ecu's that control ignition cut not a 3 wire control box. These have a bad rep on the 4e engine, if you want launch control and ignition cut you should buy a good ecu and have it tuned to do it properly. Not a fan of these given their rep on our cars. You say they are great but wouldnt have another and have you run one on a 4e? Have you read up on the poor rate they seem to have on our engines? Meh.

Sorry to rant in your thread jim, imo id stick it on ebay, they go for good money and sell quick on there :)

I also said the reason I wouldn't have one, which was because I'd get carried away. You say F1 cars have a rebuild frequently AND they rev in excess of 16,000rpm, but it's more like they have a rebuild frequently BECAUSE they rev in excess of 16,000rpm. They are very, very highly strung engines. Lots of drifters use these, you can't just say all drifters have elaborate ECU's and that none use these, as they do. If these have a bad reputation on 4E's then there is a reason for it. They have a bad reputation on SR20's with stock rockers, apparently they blow them after constant use, so maybe there is something about 4E's that isn't up to scratch? Although I doubt it, as they handle 1.0-1.2 bar on a TD04 reliably. As I said, I blame it on user error/abuse. PM me if you can tell me what it is that 4E's break with these, I'd like to know

Sorry about the thread clutter. If you don't want the comments on the thread then have a mod delete them dude.

  4. Had one one my Civic. Got the wrong one by accident so it never properly worked because it didn't have the resistor mine should of had. But if I gave it a little bit of revs, say 3,000, and turned the gain on 5, it would kind of burble like a Scooby until you gave it more throttle. Then... WADADADADADADABANGBANGBANG POP! Loud as shit but so entertaining. Wouldn't get one again as I'd get carried away.

  5. People always complain about these blowing up engines. This is 100% user error and abuse. The Bee*R uses the same method of ignition cut as F1 cars use, and it's a tried and tested method. The reason peoples engines blow up is the have the thing on full chat all the time, spitting flames, popping and banging, and it puts strain on your engine. Drift guys use these too as they're constantly bashing the limiter and these are the reason they don't explode after one corner. These prolong engine life by a big margin, as I said, if you blow it up, I'd bet money it's because 1) It was wired wrong or 2) You were taking the piss and showing off, and so blew your shit up.

Great piece of kit IMO and well priced. GLWS.

lots of comparable data here for you to digest :)

    Great thread, cheers!

Well if you do something correctly, you should have it tuned properly too, but I guess not everyone does this.

Well it seems a stock 4E with a TD04 on 1 bar, with a good tune is a fast, reliable starting point, and doesn't risk reliability. Pretty sure a 900KG Glanza with 240bhp would be startling lol.

Yeah I read about the older 4E's and there better rods. Kind of funny, as the older EP82 got rods which could reliably handle more power, but was the CT9A not a lower output turbo compared to the Glanza's CT9B?

  7. Found a few of slash. Not sure what age she is in these though. I'll find some more recent ones.

She so had shedding problems, but lived thankfully. She got really aggressive when she was shedding as her eyes would go cloudy so she couldn't really see much, and if you reached in to get her she would really let you know about it. She would hiss for a few seconds and if you persisted to try take her out, she would strike so fast and smash your hand back. Such a strong snake! I'll get some pics when she was bigger. She was great out of shed, not during. The Tokay's are really bad tempered too. Little f*ckers are fearless!

  8. Pics please? Would be good to see

If you're talking to me, I'll dig through Facebook and get them. The most recent was the Bloodred corn who I bought with a few problems with the intent of bringing it back to health (Same as I did with my boa). The snake wouldn't shed as the previous owner didn't remove the first layer of shed when it clearly didn't have a good first shed. Then three or four sheds ended up doing the same thing, so it had several layers of skin wrapped around it whilst it was growing and it was really unhealthy because of it. I sat with it and peeled it all of with shed softener, but it was pretty much dead. Lasted two days after the skin removed, then died. Pics coming soon. They'll be in the order I find them, so sorry if they're jumbled up.

  9. I've been in two TD04 GTs @ 0.6bar stock ECU (Adam's and Sparky's) and they felt on par (and at higher speeds, faster) than my GT at 1 bar, nuff said!

Do it, you won't regret it!

So would you say, even on stock management, he would be okay to run a TD04, provided he kept to moderate boost levels?

The good thing about upgrading a turbo on a vehicle which came out of the factory boosted vs turbocharging a Civic for example which was N/A originally, is that there isn't such a drastic change in fueling and air flow. Sticking a turbo on a Civic on stock management is basically making a bomb with wheels. If what people are saying is true, upgrading to a TD04 could actually be fine. Everything in moderation though, don't go running 1.1 bar through the engine without tuning :p

  10. Well it's not just about power, but it's not just about boost either. 1 bar on a CT9 is a lot differant to 1 bar on a GT28 or similar. Obviously cylinder pressure has a lot to do with the longevity of an engine too. If I strapped a TD04 on 1 bar to a 4E and ran it for a month, then stuck a GT35 on it and ran 1 bar, it wouldn't last the same. As most people run TD04's, let's just say a nice healthy engine, running a TD04. So far it seems 220-240bhp will be the most reliable power...

  11. 5.5ft Columbian Red Tailed Boa Constrictor called Slash.

A 1.5-1.7ft Blue tongued skink called Thompson (Lol).

Two adult Tokay gecko morphs, 8 juveniles, no names for any of them.

A Ball Python called Spider-Man (Again, lol).

Two bearded dragons called Bacon and Rasher(Lol x3).

And a Bloodred corn snake juvenile.

Not all at the same time though!

  12. WelcomeAlong :)Check out the classifieds, hopefully gonna be a scottish meet soon aswell so hopefully you can make that no dates set in stone as of yet

Well the better weather should be here soon, so if I have a Glanza by then I'll be there mate, let me know f the date ever gets arranged :)

  13. I knew I'd get an answer like that, lol.

Well to make it easier to answer, I'm not looking for a mathematical answer with 500 factors. More like, how much power have people on here ran, and for how long? Obviously if somebody made 250bhp on the dyno, that doesn't mean it's reliable. I'm looking for how long people had their power levels for before they encountered problems. Obviously I can see who was most reliable from that, and factoring in the difference between each engine, I can work out a safe, relative output :)
