Ep91 auto inner cv/probably different questions
M-R-P replied to M-R-P's topic in Drivetrain & Transmission
Hey col, I was hoping you'd spot me lol. Yeah it's the cup rattling about. Been busy. New job, decorating the new house. Oh, I'm just about to fit a 19t to the Swedish lump too ;) -
Ep91 auto inner cv/probably different questions
M-R-P replied to M-R-P's topic in Drivetrain & Transmission
Stupid phone, the title should read "cv/probably diff questions" -
Hi peeps. After some knocking from under the front of the car, I've got the thing on stands as I type in fact, my investigations have led me to the point where the driveshaft meets the diff. It's slopping about in there like a goodun! Am I looking at a knackered diff? Driveshaft? Or is there a quick fix like a nut needing a few turns? It's a 98 GLS auto. All input gratefully received Martin.

Maybe you've seen it... (possibly from behind, as it gets smaller and smaller in the distance lol)
-
Haha ;) I completely understand but the volvo is my plaything (you can't argue with 300bhp/340lb/ft and 150mph in 4th gear ;) ) The starlet just passed it's MOT so I'll be looking at tweaking it a bit and sorting some body work issues
-
Ello Not on here much but I'll be up for some sort of gathering (depending on prior engagements). I've not got a very exciting GLS but the straight panels are shiny Alternatively, I could bring something a bit different?
-
Ah, ok, thanks for the info I still need to confirm what the problem is but I know one thing... I'm not paying £237 from my local stealer!
-
Has it got the 3-ball thingy on it? Considering the same auto box is used for the turbo and NA cars, I'd have thought they'd be the same but who knows. (probably someone lol)
-
Ello col Every day's a schoolday mate ;) Don't fancy paying out for a new shaft tbh, it's not completely screwed yet - in fact, I'm not 100% it's the CV but I have my suspicions. Gonna pull it all apart later and see what's what.
-
I'm after the 3-ball thingy You know the one, the inner CV. I don't think it makes any difference weather it's manual or auto, turbo or NA but if it does, mines an auto NA Cash waiting Thanks, Martin.

Colour doesn't matter as I have a lot of spraying to do any way. Postage might be a little awkward tho lol

Anybody got a standard bonnet, preferably in the colour pictured below but not fussed The lad next door reversed his discovery into the front of my newly machine-polished Starlet last night I'm on the south coast but prepared to travel a bit or arrange collection if I have to. Thanks.

Strangest thing you've ever done in your starlet?
M-R-P replied to Billy SR's topic in Lifestyle General
If we're talking chatter - this is what my neighbours have to put up with, whenever I take the Volvo out (2319cc, 5cyl, TD04 16T @16psi) -

Sleeping in a starlet? Are you all midgets? I have trouble driving down the road without giving myself concussion every time I hit a manhole cover! Strangest thing I've done in the starlet is drive through Brooklands with my head poking out the sunroof Nowt special I spose. -
The C70 wouldn't stand a chance against a tweaked Starlet off the line (C70 is over 1500Kg) but once they're moving they're surprisingly fast if driven right ;)
-
W reg is 2000 so it'll definately be ME7. They have a better turbo (16t) and bigger 395cc injectors as well as a better inlet manifold but a temporamental throttle module. £300 should see 280+bhp with no supporting mods ;) I'd like to see a starlet keep up with that from 40mph onward ;)
-
Makes for interesting reading ;) How much ooomph do you recon these auto boxes can cope with before they leave a pile of metal on the road? I could send you a link to a C70 T5 with 345+ bhp which, after some more testing and a custom map, should be touching 400bhp. Just a remap on the C70 T5, depending on if it's ME7 or Motronic ecu (Motronic has a throttle cable, ME7 is fly-by-wire) and condition of the engine, 280bhp is easily achievable. The map for the Motronic is £150 and the ME7 map is £300. Get him to sign up to VPCUK or T5D5 or volvotuning.net for inspiration ;)

Got a link? I'm still struggling with IPboard layouts (used to Vbulletin). There's 2 problems I have with going fast in the starlet, compared to the Volvo... 1. I weigh 110 Kg which has adverse effects on the handling of a small car (plus the fact I don't fit into most bucket seats) 2. If I prang the volvo at 100+ mph (on a private road of course) I'll most likely walk away. Having watched the Euro Ncap videos for the starlet, I'd be lucky to walk away at half the speed. Maybe I'm getting old lol. It doesn't mean however, that I won't appreciate the effort that's gone i
-
Hehe yeah, it's considerably slower than I'm used to but I like the point n squirt go-kart feel. A manual conversion isn't out of the question in the future but it's all about the bodywork and interior for now. I have the other car for going fast should I feel the urge.

Thanks mate. It's surprising how many people secretly admire the big swedish lumps. As standard, they run 250bhp and 315 lb/ft, the plod gearbox is good for 146mph in 4th too. ;) I've added a few performance mods recently - 3" maf to turbo pipe made by volvo tuning guru Tim Williams, an IPD BCS, 395cc injectors and wound the wastegate actuator in a bit too. She's making a smooth 16 psi and does 50-100mph in about 8 seconds or so. I'll do a thread on it at some point of anybody's interested.
-
Thanks guys. As you'll see in a later thread (or two) there's been a fair bit of effort gone into both cars (the Starlet didn't take too much but the Volvo has taken 3 years to get to where she is), I like to have a nice clean motor ;)

Hi there! I've just taken ownership of my first Starlet. It's a 1998 GLS auto (yes I know it's slow lol), I'm it's 2nd owner, previous owner being the wife's aunt. Full Toyota service history 42k miles. The car is very healthy for it's age with no knocks or rattles, everything working as it should and although there's an issue with me being quite large and not fitting in the passenger seat very well, it's lovely to drive I'll be honest (and some may not like this bit) I've got it as a daily runner in an effort to save fuel and mileage on my plaything which is a 2003 Volvo V70
