  1. For say an extra £500 in parts and labour for someone thinking of buying this!

I'd suggest doing it yourself but johns glanza has been up for sale for ages and it's a similar spec so manual box doesn't overly mean a quick sale

Best of luck with the sale

    James

This could be converted for buttons, most of the parts you need you could get from a EP91 N/a (pedal, shifter, cables etc) Youd just need a good C52/6 box and a turbo clutch / flywheel combo.

    Anyway, GLWS :)

Thanks guys, I know it's probably a quick and easy job for someone who knows what they're doing.... but sadly that's not me. So it would be a case of buying all the bits, paying someone to do the work, and being even more out of pocket than I am currently. It's my daily and I'm constantly busy, even evenings and weekends so it's not something I could attempt myself unfortunately.

It either sells as it is or not at all, I'm looking to free up some funds by selling, not put any more into it. I can't justify spending any more!

  2. alright guys, this weird thing started happening yesterday evening.... I've had the car for 2 years and the temperature gauge has NEVER gone above the half way mark regardless of driving, sitting in traffic on hot days etc. However, I was driving home yesterday evening and it suddenly started climbing and heading for the red mark, then it dropped just as quickly and stayed at half way again. Same again this morning on the way to work, drove for 5 minutes then dropped my son off, it rose quickly and got towards the top again so I turned the ignition off for a few mins then on again, temp was stable at half way. Engine doesn't feel like it's overheating, are the gauges prone to going a bit wobbly?

Also, a couple of times last week, when I stopped in traffic the car wasn't idling smoothly like it usually does - it was revving from about 1.5-2k about twice a second then back to normal (sitting happily at 1k) after a few more miles of driving.

Any idea if the two things are related? Thanks.

  3. Seen as you need family car, I have a 2008 leon fr550 diesel 170ps. BTCC kitted and in candy white (best colour). Trade with cash my way as I'll get at least 8 and a half grand for mine 63000 on clock. Just a thought.....

Thanks dude but I'm after something like a Touran, and I don't want to put any more money than I get from the Glanza sale into my next car.

Just another quick one, so free bump.

how much bhp and torque would the auto box take before it went pop?

    Free bump

No idea to be honest, you don't see many big power autos around.

Still interested in this full recaro interior ;-)

sorry fella not looking to break, it either goes as a complete car or not at all.

  4. Hi Guys,

Electrical gremlins.... car in question is a 96 P reg Glanza V.

Headlights are a bit temperamental and only main/full beam seem to work (no side lights) also they are meant to be HIDs but don't seem very powerful.

    Dashboard has stopped lighting up.

Rear lights - only the brake lights and indicators are working, lights and fog and reverse have all stopped.

Any ideas? My mate found a lighting diagram online somewhere a few months ago which suggested it was all down to one fuse, but I can't find it now.

    Cheers.

  5. Right, last time my car was on the RR I was told there was excessive engine movement due to a worn lower gearbox mount. I called ID Works today to order a replacement but they told me Powerflex don't make a bush for auto cars. A member sent this info to me earlier.... can anyone confirm that I can use something else (such as a manual bush or a bush for LSD equipped cars) please? Thanks.

I have a glanza auto its not LSD but on the auto the bush is bigger than a manual gearbox mount, I'm not 100% on this only that the LSD bush might fit the auto mount, when I was looking for one an eBay seller said LSD bush will fit for auto mount.

I thought I had a problem with my rear mount bush after going to a car mechanic said I had a lot of play there.

A member told me you can put a manual gearbox mount onto the auto gearbox so I bought a rear gearbox mount off a manual, that fitted fine apart from the mount was a powerflex yellow bush & it just didn't suit the car at all with the car vibrating on standstill was ok when you was moving along, I couldn't cope with it in the end so I decided to get a second hand standard manual rear gearbox mount, when that arrived I compared it to my original gear box mount & mine was much better condition no cracks in the bush at all, went to another car garage they said my original rear mount was fine, haha I just stuck my old one back on in the end, there seems to be still play there but I reckon it's just how they are.

Anyway after me rambling on try & take a PIC of your mount so I can see what it looks like, if it is your original standard mount then like I said there bigger & a LSD bush might fit, but not LSD mount it self or just get a good second had manual mount with a good bush, but if you do have LSD mount then A standard mount will not fit.

    cheers

    Mike.

  6. Ok, I know I'm going to look really ignorant here, asking questions about my own car which I've owned for two years..... but does anyone know if it has an LSD and if so, is it standard or aftermarket? There was no mention of it on the original for sale advert, I'm about to order a new lower gearbox bush and I need to know what's what to get the correct bush.

    Cheers.

  7. Good old tony..

    Legend machinist..

Done my engine boring and honing few years back.

Done all my mates machine work too.

    Glad getting sorted now mate.

Should have messaged me when u had trouble, swear i got spares in my lock up doing sod all

jayc... are you the guy I spoke to in the Shell garage last weekend?

  8. Engineers report from Quest Motorpsort, after it broke down last year and they sorted it all out for me. this was completed at the end of September 2014 and it's been perfect ever since:

"Received car in a non running condition. On trying to start the car it was very apparent that there was a compression problem.

    1. carry out compression test , found pressure of 45 , 0 , 60 , 150 psi respectively from cylinder 1 on wards.

    2. carry out cylinder leakdown test to determine if the problem was head or block related , cylinder leakage was 75 , 100 , 70 , 20% respectively from cylinder 1.

    3. remove cylinder head , first observation head torque was no where near the 60 ft lbs specified by ARP. Once head was off it was also noted that some of the head bolt washers where in correctly fitted.

The no 5 inlet valve was stuck wide open causing the zero psi compression reading on cylinder2, the valve closed when tapped with the handle of a screw driver and did not appear to be bent.

    4. all valves removed and checked for damage non where bent or damaged , but the cam follower on the no5 inlet valve on cylinder2 would not come out freely and once removed it could be seen that the bore the cam follower travels in was damaged causing the valve to stick in a certain position, the damage could have been caused by a valve spring compressor. The damaged bore was cleaned up and checked that the follower moved freely in all positions with out sticking.

    5. all valves lapped in with minimal effort and vacuum checked for leakage on the bench , the head was re assembled with new valve guide seals and up rated valve springs, valve clearances were then checked , it was found all inlet valves had minimal clearance of less than .002" , all exhaust valves except 1 were below bottom limit clearance.

All valves re shimmed to give top limit clearance.

    6. cylinder head re installed with new gasket after a leakage test was carried out on the pistons half way down bores, this confirmed there was no by pass, head bolts re torqued to the correct 60 lbs ft in 3 stages , then repeat sequence before cam cover was replaced.New cam belt kit installed .

    7. Remove exhaust manifold as it had been blowing badly , this was refaced , also the poor quality of the manifold was addressed and all internal welds from the waste gate port and collector were dressed to removed break through and all restrictions, refit manifold. Prime oil circuits to turbo and internals ready for starting. start engine and run up to temperature, electric fan working ok . Road test car and check for any oil and water leaks. Dyno check car for boost control and AFR's, AFR's were acceptable across the rev range. it was not safe to carry out continuous dyno runs due to the poor lower gear box mount causing excessive engine movement.

Engine cold start and general running now very good , vehicle returned to customer."

  9. She been good to you whilst you've had it? I read you had a few problems but is that all sorted now.

yeah very good, apart from the blip mentioned above! all got sorted though.

Finally had enough then ? as above did the problems ever get sorted ?

    James

I need something bigger and more practical. yeah everything was sorted by Quest Motorsport last September, it's been fault free since!

U selling or breaking buddy ???

    Might b intrested in some

Bits also I willing to help you out with the above problems of u don't sell or break

strictly selling as a whole car fella, no time to break or be left with a rolling shell that nobody wants!

  10. It's impossible to get 300miles from a full tank unless it's motorway miles.

My full tank is £37 and I get 230km from a standard car town driving

Don't motorway miles count then? driving is driving. I'm obviously not saying that a spirited drive will return 300 to a tank, but when I drove the car back from Newcastle to Essex, I got around 300. Cheers.

  11. Photo links don't work bud, can you fix them please?

    Cheers,

    Phil.

just tried them all and they were fine for me, took me straight to the pics... do you have to be a Flickr member to see Flickr or links or something?

Although I hate to see cars been broken, if you ever break?

Contact me for that full recaro interior.

no chance, it's going complete or not at all. cheers anyway.

Would be nice to know the bhp of her Aswell ?

around 280, thats what it made on TD's rolling road after the conversion anyway.

    285bhp aint it

    near enough :)

What went wrong with it with you having to spend £2000 ?

it's all detailed in the build thread (search Project Impulse Purchase) but I'll find the info from Quest when I get home and post it in here.
