  1. Hi guys,

After finally getting an insurance quote that is reasonable im looking for a relatively standard glanza v.

I don't mind if the car needs a bit of paintwork but I would like one that is mechanically sound and has MOT

I am based in essex so would like something relatively close although I will travel for the right car.

    Thanks

  2. Hi guys!

Im looking to jump into the starlet ownership and am after a relatively standard glanza v.

I don't mind a few mods like exhausts, fmic ,wheels etc.

Im looking for one with up to 100k Miles, a good amount of service history and at least 6 months MOT. I am based in Essex and am willing to travel for up to 2 hours each way. Obviously if the car has a small build thread or the owner is a reputable member on the forum I would be more inclined to purchase it.

Please private message me or post details below.

    Thanks

    Mugzy

  3. Thanks a lot for your input guys! I believe the starlet could probably manage it quite easily but being in the IT industry I do visit quite a lot of clients in different places. For example i sometimes end up in brighton or southampton and although the starlet isn't much older than the fiesta im not sure I would want to arrive in a very loud in your face car. Also its whether modified insurers allow business insurance as well because I would need it for travelling about :)

  4. Hi guys,

Im only a few month away from buying my first Glanza V and im really looking forward to buying it!

Currently im just driving a mk5 fiesta zetec s to and from work which is around a 40 mile round trip. I decided that is probably to far for a Glanza everyday so will be putting it in the garage and driving it at weekends.

At the time of purchasing the car i'll be 20 and have 2 years no claims.

What I was looking to do is put the Glanza v and the fiesta on the same policy but have around a 3000 mile limit on the Glanza and 12000 on my fiesta . I was just wondering if anyone has done the same with modified insurers and has had a good experience with any company in particular?

    Thanks in advance

    Tom

  5. Mate i basically live by the flats, always going past. Never seen a black glanza here! I drive a black gt tho?

    You local?

Sorry for the late reply! I was playing football in Melbourne park and I stopped dead just to listen to it! I think ive seen your's before. I myself am looking at buying a starlet hence im on here finding out about them before i purchase one!

I only live in danbury so not far from chelmsford so if i get one i'll more than happily come out and about :)

  6. It's always a gamble really I've bought from

People when I've read here build thread and it all looks proper and it a turned out to be Pikeyed and I've bought some that should have really blew up on the way home and have turned out solid.

Take your time looking round the car and make sure your happy with everything its not always about paperwork. I do all my own work myself so despite the oil being changed 4 times in the last 7 months and it only covering about 2k miles none of it is noted down. Keep an eye out on things like wiring and how visable jobs have been done the likely hood is if they are gonna pikey one thing there gonna pikey everything.

Can always do things like compression tests and leak down tests there good todo but at the end of the day there not fool proof you could buy a lemon. Its the joy of used cars sadly

Yep I suppose I'll just have to take my time which is something I was planning on doing anyway. If something appears and its not great I'm in no rush to buy it so will happily leave it alone.

My Dad is a mechanic so i'm sure he will have an input plus everything I've picked up from being on here in the last 4 months!

  7. alot of people push boost on the starlets/gt then remove the aftermarket goods when selling so its hard to tell if its had a hardlife or not but done sensibly they canhack it most of the time, depends how heavy the drivers foot is if you ask me lol

Yeah this is what i'm worried about mainly. Could I perhaps carry out a compression test before buying? May help a bit. Obviously oil changes, servicing etc would need to be documented for me to buy it anyway but that doesn't mean the engine hasn't been abused

  8. If you stay clear of said slipper wanker and find a nice example they can be very reliable it's when you start chasing bigger power issues creep in that said I had one for a daily running around 260bhp on a stock engine for a year and never gave me any bother at all.

If your looking to buy one advertised on line you can always stick the link up here for people to look at. People can pick apart the bullshit and possible know the cars history

Yeah could sense he was a shady character and the forums confirmed it. Really Im looking to chase 200ish BHP from either ct9 hybrid/Td04.

I suppose the first step would be to ensure engine health is at its best and then go from there.

    Thanks

  9. Hi guys,

I have been a member on here for quite a few months and am yet to purchase a starlet.

I was close to buying one and found out it was some slipper wearing scammer that I'm glad I avoided.

Since then I have spent ages reading thread after thread and still haven't been able to commit to buying one.

Currently I am used to messing around with N/A cars pumaed fiestas and hondas mainly. Thus im not to clued up on the turbo side of things such as the boost controllers, wastegates etc..

My plan is to buy a starlet in the summer and carry out all the reliability mods i can and get it running sweet.

Common problems I have seen are

    >Boost creeps

    >people engines shitting everywhere on the way home from buying them (obviously have to source a good example/well maintained car)

    >Cracked manifolds etc.

I currently do at least 40 miles per day and I am wondering if the car is going to be reliable enough for me to use as a daily (which im sure it could be)

Basically what Im getting at is what are the mods/maintenance I should do to ensure the car operates as it should!

Thanks a lot for the help

If the info I need is in another thread please link it to me as I might of missed it!

    Tom!!

  10. I have actually moved onto another car as it turned out the first one I was looking at was a bit too modified for me.

Here is the car im currently look at and the spec.

    DSCF4619_zps16baa01d.jpg

    Ct9 Turbo
    Front Mount Intercooler
    OEM Front Strut brace
    HKS Actuator
    HKS Dump valve
Full Stainless Steel exhaust system with 3" backbox
    Lowered all round
    2x OEM Toyota wind deflectors
    Rear windows tinted
15" Rota alloy wheels sprayed cherry red
    x4 good tyres
    Yellow tinted foglights
    TRD leather gear knob

  11. Thanks for the advice guys! Im not looking for bundles of power! The car im looking at already has two preloaded boost settings one low one just above normal i think. Should be suitable for changing when i drive to work as well as having a bit of a blast!

  12. I wouldnt worry about buying and running a car with a ct9 on it. I just wouldn't bother wasting money upgrading/replacing the ct9 setup. If something goes wrong with the ct9 bin itt off

thats what i was thinking of doing! run it until it goes! Not looking for massive power anyway 200bhp max. Thanks for your help guys

  13. I just made 177hp from my ct9 at .8bar, most people run them at 1bar where you can make 190-200hp with a massive powerband. theyre good fun although ill be changing mine to a td04 kit pretty son as you soon get used to the ct9s power.

The starlet im looking at as an "uprated" CT9 and Manifold. FMIC exhaust and its supposedly pushing 180bhp. Im thinking I should do a compression test while im there if he lets me? Hopefully that should help me out in making a decision
