  1. Welcome aboard UKSO Tegiwa! Would just like to say to anyone considering this deal, they're awesome cages! I run the full cage with door bars and the extra bracing etc and it's absolutely superb quality and finish! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a full cage that's already FIA/MSA approved!

Anyone wanting pictures of a cage fitted can see one in all it's glory in my build thread

  2. I've used them properly, in my '82, and other cars.

They'll be fine on the road, but one assumes this wont be a road car, that gearbox wont last long otherwise.

That's all well and good matey, thanks for the advice, but I would much rather find out for myself, as personal experiences always differ.

The car will still be fully road legal, though won't be a daily, will be driven to shows and trailered to track days...

  4. Very Different, Keep up the work!

You have some serious £££ in this now!

Cheers dude! Yeah got some serious cash in it, but we all need something to keep us occupied! Should be a whole different car when it's finished :D

EBC pads are fine, until you use them properly, then they are dog turd.

Well, I guess that's some peoples opinions, though I've also heard some good things about them, so it's something I'll have to test for myself when the car comes back :)

  5. Lights look shit lol in my opinion. Id almost understand them on a rally car Upgraded brakes and go for horse piss EBC pads( again my experience and others online)

That's fair enough dude, each to their own, some people love it, some people hate it, it was always going to divide opinions. As for the brakes, it's personal preference, I've never had any problems with EBC pads, as I'm sure many others haven't, but as with everything, it's trial and error, and finding out what works for you. I love the feel on the pedal with the combination I have now, and it's a definite improvement, so I have no complaints :)

  6. Update time! - The project now has a name, and is more controversial than ever!

Well, it's been a while since I've updated my thread, and to be honest, I haven't done 'TOO' much!

In anticipation of the rather large build from the Jones' brothers at Tuning Developments, I got on the phone to Mike and ordered a set of K-Sport brakes to replace the 'fast road' setup I was previously using. They're in a whole different league altogether, and accompanied by a set of EBC Yellowstuff pads, are much sharper!

These were fitted no less than hours after they arrived, which highlighted the next issue... WHEELS! ... Much to my dismay, the RPF1's didn't quite have enough clearance on the inside of the wheel, and I didn't want to run spacers, so it was back on the phone to Mike to talk about a set of 15's that would clear the calipers without fouling the arches; cue the Rota Slipstreams! They fit nicely over the K-Sports without catching, and looked lovely against the car, even more so with a fresh set of R888R's!

    BD9C3803-9E05-4DC7-9C2C-D7CB1B47E80D_zps

The RPF's weren't missed at all with the Rota's now on, and the car was starting to look a little better, not to mention it was performing better with the grippier rubber and greatly increased braking, something it was certainly lacking before!

I also ordered a new filter for the car due to the K&N looking a little tired, so a lovely new HKS mushroom filter was put in place of it.

    701E36A3-DBCB-44FE-A3FB-95E424445080_zps

Now, the car sat for a while, and the more I looked, the more I liked it, but it was missing something... The graphics started to look a little "off" and the impact they initially had was starting to wear thin; it was time for something new!

Now, I know it's not to everyone's tastes, and I said in an earlier post that I wanted something less "Need for Speed", but I was born and raised in the 90's, so something had to give...

    5FA5CE99-20C5-48D1-9C0F-3088628A34C7_zps

Yes, you're seeing this right, it's a shopping list!! And guess what?! I LOVE it! Not just the way it splits opinions and makes some cringe, but, it's fitting... The car is going in for a LOT of work, and each of these stickers is relevant to the build (not unlike your average Corsa/Saxo outside of your local Halfords!). This isn't a permanent thing though and some subtle graphics have already been designed ready for it's return once it's finished at TD.

This, however, isn't the most controversial modification that has been done recently (BELIEVE IT OR NOT!)... No, that accolade goes to my custom light pod that now graces the front of the car! I understand that this is a VERY different modification from the 'normal' Starlet scene, but, I like to be different and break the mould, and that's exactly what I've done!

    3983DDE6-1148-47D6-8036-850DD1CA3EA1_zps

Now, before people start commenting on how it 'spoils the appearance' and 'undoes all of my aero work', it is infact fully removable, and can be taken off easily and quickly if needed. That wasn't the idea though, I've done it because it's something that I thought would look good, and be a dramatic change to the usual changes made to Starlets.

Now, seeing it in person is totally different, and the pictures give the pod no justice as to how it fits, it's so close to the original shape of the bonnet considering it's a custom jobbie by me and my dad! It will be seen by most of you at shows next year when she's fully finished, and I know I will get a LOT of hate for these changes, but that's what makes the scene what it is, and it's refreshing to see something that breaks the mould now and again! (But I would say that ;-) )

Well, with all of that out of the way, I can conclude this update by announcing that my project finally has a name, and that is "PROJECT OUTLAW". Why, you may ask? Well, it's now at the stage that it doesn't really "fit in" with the 'normal' Starlet scene, and so with it not having a category to fit into, it's kind of a loner, an outcast... an OUTLAW!

One last word though, about the big build coming... Let's just say it's going a little bigger, a little better, and a hell of a lot more exciting; (for me at least!). She's finally in the good hands of Mike and Nick, and frankly, I can't wait!!

Thanks for reading, and I hope that this update has humoured you a little, if nothing else!

    Awaiting the inevitable criticism,

    Scott.

  7. Nardi/Personal wheels are amazing quality! I ran the 330mm Neo Grinta on my Glanza before swapping it out for the Reverie Carbon 300mm.

Size is personal preference, as is weight/shape etc. I've ran multiple cars with 300mm wheels and love the feel on the road, hence the change, but 320/330mm seems to be the most popular option.

    Scott. 👍🏼

  8. It really is marmite some bits I like but some I don't all I can think of is batman lol if you can get up a multistory it's not low enough haha :) I can't do that exhaust!

Haha exactly matey, it always divides opinions, but, it's what I like, and it's built by me, for me, but it's nice to see it gets appreciated for the work that's went into it at least :) Haha it was the first floor of the multi storey, but it's not low by all means, I'd rather have handling than extreme lows ;-)

  9. Update Time Again - New Steering Wheel and Custom Exhaust!

Well, another small update, something a little 'different' this time!

The car as it stands is VERY marmite, some of you will love it, some will hate it, and these next couple modifications are certainly no different!

Anyway, first things first, the Personal wheel was removed, to make way for a pure carbon fibre wheel from Reverie Composites. As you can see from the scales, it is EXTREMELY light, and the smaller wheel feels tremendous to drive with, very precise and has a lovely feel, especially through the bends!

We then went to a local car meet on the Sunday night, and after leaving, decided to take some photo's alongside the girlfriend's Yaris T-Sport. Shame I forgot to put the door numbers on before I took the photos, but not to worry, as it didn't have the new exhaust on either!

Last but not least on this update, will probably be the single most controversial mod on the car! Some people will love it, some will hate it, but either way, it sounds amazing!

I had a custom exhaust made for my old Miata a few years ago, and wanted something a little crazy again, so headed back to the same company for a "Laguna Pipe" style exhaust, with just one small box and a turned up tip. It was originally a polished stainless exhaust, but I heat wrapped the box and the tip to compliment the styling of the car, and think it really suits it!

Some of you will probably notice the sticker on the underside of the wing too, that is purely for comedy value, made in a classic 8bit design too! :p

    GameOver_zpsuhgvxwse.jpg

I appreciate that it's not to everyone's tastes, but that's what makes the car scene so diverse, and that's why I love it so much.

Comments and criticism accepted as always.

    Scott

  10. For anyone who hasn't heard about it, RACEISM is a blog/forum for all types of car enthusiasts worldwide. They hold meets all over Europe, UK, Ireland etc and have a large following.

Everyone nowadays has a Speedhunters/TOM's/TRD sunstrip, I wanted to set myself apart from the crowd, and so have gone and done something different (again!).

It won't be to everyone's taste, but I like it, and the people understand can appreciate the play on words that is, RACEISM. :)

  11. Update time again!

The thread was due another update following a few more changes on the car, so here goes:

As mentioned from my last update post, the livery was removed and the damage was sorted from the previous owner, giving me a fresh blank canvas to work with.

    06A8F1A3-47E9-4956-A257-087C86076FF2_zps

The bonnet scoop was smoothed into the bonnet before seeing more paint too, but this is only a temporary measure until I can sort a carbon or cruise bonnet (once my bank account recovers a little that is!).

    E6BCF8EC-2065-4AD8-B84C-BF45873E0184_zps

So, I started throwing some ideas around for a new livery, something less "Need for Speed: Underground" and a little more refined (not that there's anything wrong with Need for Speed, mind you!)

My initial idea was as follows:...

    75AFBE94-6BFB-4313-AB29-4AA1419F5AB6_zps

...But the more I looked at it, the less I liked it, and the more cluttered and in your face it began to look. So, I changed it again, and found something that I just KNEW was right for the look I was going for!

    So here it is:

    126A563F-065F-437A-8B0A-D3DCF96B689D_zps

    53C94EE2-0D12-4646-8335-CBFADACD8040_zps

The number boards were smaller than the last time, and this time I made the decision to use magnetic boards, allowing me to remove them when not in use, and if i wanted to change the number/design around.

    09C1C3BC-F960-4655-8D17-9123817C3396_zps

She even looks good without them!

    F3A7FD3A-87F2-4B75-8C21-5AF93BD45744_zps

That's all picture wise, but on a good note, the deposit is paid for the work at Tuning Developments, which is something I'm mega excited about!

I've treat her to another little something too, but that's currently being made, so pictures will follow as soon as it arrives... (It's a little bit special! :D )

Comments and criticism welcomed as always.

  12. Car looks good mate and some personal touches taking place.

As for towing the Glanza with a caddy, that's a no no. Caddy doesn't have the weight rating to tow a trailer and the Glanza hence my reason for opting for another Trafic.

    Keep up the work bud!

    John

Thanks mate, she's getting there now! Has certainly transformed since I first got her that's for sure!

Ah bugger, didn't even think about that, my bad! Yeah I see it only has around 1100kg towing capacity, rather low really, due to curb weight I'm guessing! No biggie, there's ways around that, probably see about buying a different towing rig just for use for the tracks!

    There's no going back now!

    Cheers John :)

  13. I dread to think what the Quaife bill is going to be.

You could pay labour and have 9-10 recon c52 boxes fitted for the money. Big investment dude if your only just starting to get into driving it on track.

The gearbox's seem to not like 300-330bhp. Seems to be the starting point of issues.

Car looks great tho and is progressing nicely. Ill be keeping an eye on it!

The bill isn't going to be the smallest that's for sure, but knowing I'll have some strength in what's known to be a weak component is very reassuring. I don't mind shelling out money for quality parts, and it's the passion that keeps me going, as I've mentioned to TimD, as soon as its complete I'll be hitting the tracks as much as possible.

Thanks for the input and comments, I'll keep you all updated with how it goes!

    Cheers :)

  14. No worries, driving quickly on track takes practice. I'd also highly recommend using a trailer, not worrying about how you're going to get the car home if breaks, or you go off the circuit makes track days much more fun. Plus it'll preserve the life of that gearbox!

See about getting a decent sim racing setup at home, it's amazing what a difference that can make to your driving.

I used to have a sim setup in the house, but lack of use didn't warrant it enough, I enjoy just being out and driving way more! And I'll be getting myself a trailer as soon as I get the car finished and get a towbar on the Caddy, so that's no issue :).

As soon as the car is finished and I know everything is there that I need so it's reliable, I plan to do as many track days as possible, as skill only comes with experience!

    Thanks again for your input.

  15. You need time in your car, and some tuition. Learn to use all of the track rather than driving down the middle of it, learn to carry speed rather than relying on power.

A sequential gearbox automatically propels you into the Pro classes at Time Attack, look at time sheets from previous rounds, book track days, use Harry's Lap Timer, or buy a Racelogic Performance box and figure out how far off podium pace you are for your class.

I agree, more time is needed in the car, I was mainly concentrating on "getting a feel" for things, and as mentioned, it was my first track time in the car, so was very foreign to me. The line wasn't far off the line we were shown on the pace lap, though if I was to use all of the track, I don't honestly think the tyres would have held out under harsh cornering, though I done the best I could and gave it my best shot.

Thanks for the advice! The gearbox is mainly due to the standard items being fairly unreliable as power increases, and instead of repeatedly fitting standard gearboxes, it makes sense to upgrade.

More track time is a certainty, but until then, better tyres and a few more adjustments shall be made to the car, after all, it was the cars first time on track, as well as mine!

    Thanks for your input :)

  16. As promised, here are the photo's of the recent modifications, and the video from Rockingham, but before I upload them, I've realised that in my haste, I'd actually forgotten a few things!

I purchased a FIA/MSA compliant "plumbed in" fire extinguisher kit, which was fitted just incase of emergencies, as it's better to be safe than sorry! The canister is a 4.25 litre bottle mounted behind the passenger seat, with spray nozzles located in the drivers and passengers footwell, and at all 4 corners of the engine bay, covering all necessary locations, with 2 "pull cords", one internal and one external.

    9_zpscevnl4mu.jpg

Please excuse the messy engine bay, I really need to get round to cleaning and tidying it up a bit!

    8_zpsdvfyywoc.jpg

Next up was another small, simple modification which made a big difference! The standard dash bulbs were pitiful, and so I upgraded them to LED's. They're so much brighter and make the dash much more pleasant to look at. I ended up changing the sidelights to match too as I purchased too many bulbs, better than them going to waste though!

    4_zps85evuiks.jpg

    (Green Eyed Monster!)
    3_zpscemxm7rt.jpg

Following on from this, we have two modifications that have no real benefit other than aesthetics (unless you really need to hold on to the handle!), but I added a tsurikawa ring (subway handle) to the passenger side interior, and a US sized license plate and surround, which I think ties in well with the carbon license plate surround.

    5_zpsnb6h7dh0.jpg

    7_zpsjbjyobnh.jpg

Lastly, we have something a little larger. Somehow I forgot to mention that only a few weeks before Japfest 2, I started to experience clutch slip, so travelled back down to Tuning Developments for a Stage 3 Spec paddle clutch, lightened flywheel and a polyurethane rear gearbox mount!

    10_zpsidmjard9.jpg

So, finally, as promised, pictures of the cage and interior, and pictures and video's from the track!

    11_zps1htvwmjy.jpg

    13_zpshzfeyrst.jpg

    6_zpskkdn0zik.jpg

I'll have to thank GoldenVTR for this one, hope he doesn't mind, but this will show (briefly) how planted the car is. With a bit more commitment and confidence from myself (not forgetting experience!), a little more power and some better tyres, I think it would have been much more capable!

The second video is from the GoPro mounted to the lower part of the front bumper on my Glanza, which again shows just how she performed (along with some rather sexual spooling and chattering!)

Thanks for reading, I shall keep the thread updated as things progress, and any hints, tips, advice or constructive criticism is welcomed as always!

    Scott 8)

  17. Really smart looking car! Good work.

What's the understeer like with that wing fitted?

    Thanks man, much appreciated!

There is no understeer chassis wise, the only thing currently letting the car down is tyres! It has a large splitter mounted to the chassis up front that extends underneath the engine to aid in downforce, and a set of canards to help airflow too. Everything is adjusted in what seems to be the optimal position. I'll upload the video from Rockingham shortly so you can see for yourself :)

  18. I'll be having the Quaife sequential fitted around August time, along with many other parts, including standalone management, billet TD04 and going stage 2 fully forged with uprated valvesprings and ARP headbolts. Once this is done I'll report back with how it copes and how it feels.

I'll also be updating my build thread and will include videos to show how it goes/sounds/engages etc.
