  1. Don't suppose you could copy me in on this too could you? Cheers 👍🏻
  2. So photobucket has f*cked my build thread. I'd love to show you the latest updates but sadly I can't. Do feel free to suggest any image hosting sites that still work? Cheers - Matt
  3. Ok it's been a small eternity since I updated this so here goes: I'd love to say that I've got a whole load of fancy bits but that really isn't my thing so it's a bit dull. Firstly, after sorting a whole load of bits like oil etc I got it booked in for MOT with help from Socks. First, I gave it a bath to make it presentable, call me old fashioned but I can't stand taking a car off for text covered in sh*t. So much so I even cleaned inside the arches Then off we went, fun drive over the Lincs wolds but hampered by high ambient temps and a weird misfire in the higher boost setting w
  4. Just read this from start to finish, talk about getting stuck in! 😂 Great project, I'll certainly follow this one 😄👍🏻
  5. Another update: ITS DONE!!! In between house renovations, 4-day stag do in Benidorm and work I managed to find enough time to piece it all back together and I even drove it, admittedly not very far but a lap of the village is enough so far to convince me that it's ready for MOT prep etc Excuse the odd wheels, they were the first pair I had to hand. Since these were taken I've fitted my ZZRs to the Rotas and put them on the car, re-bled my brakes and found that my NSR handbrake mechanism isn't working very well so I may have to strip and rebuild the caliper before MOT. Next up is a
  6. We have updates! My gearbox arrived last week and I got round to fitting it with the help of some friends. Not finished yet so I'll get round to finishing it off this coming week - fingers crossed it's a good'un as I've taken a gamble and sourced a used box. Really looking forward to hearing it run again, let alone drive the bloody thing! Also I collected a full set of ZZRs from Rob Boston earlier in the week so I'll get these fitted too - looking forward to seeing what sort of difference these make. Speaking of Rob Boston, he's kindly agreed to take my car in and do some prep work
  7. ...and I'm back! Not much to report in the past month or so but then not much has happened, plus I've been busy with the house I'm renovating which is coming along nicely. One thing I have found is the Toyota Sprint Series! I went along for the first round at Blyton and it seems right up my street and so pending my car actually being completed at some point, I think I'll enter a couple of rounds and see how I fair! With this in mind, I figured I'd lose some extra weight and totally stripped the interior. I've kept everything just in case I ever need to re-fit any of it but essentially it's
  8. Another quick update, no exciting pics or anything but after two weeks I finally heard from the gearbox specialist (even then I had to ring them 🙄) and the result is that 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th synchros are all goosed, also the dog ring on 2nd gear is damaged too which apparently has led to further damage meaning basically, I need a new second gear. Synchros are £145 inc vat for all four from Toyota so that's not too bad but 2nd gear with dog ring is just shy of £300!!! Yesterday I was down at Donington Park and Socks kindly spotted a gearbox for sale on my way home at Ilkeston which
  9. Another quick update, not a great deal to report really. Managed to find time to drop my spare wheels of with Bim at Pugz Polishing for refinishing and he's done a top job of them! Before During The finished product. Decided to go with white to match my Rotas. These will be fitted with Hankook V12 Evo tyres whilst the Rotas will be fitted with a set of Avon ZZRs which are a Road legal semi-slick tyre. Both sets were kindly supplied by Rob Boston Racing in Gainsborough, a team I have been working with recently, assisting them in the day-to-day running of the business allowing them
  10. Morning folks, Just starting to look at wiring in a set of gauges and I'm looking for a neat solution to wire up three units, together then off to a power source etc. What's the best place to tap in to for power/earth? Also, how have you guys wired multiple gauges up? I'd sooner have a nice neat solution going on behind the dash rather than a ton of wires taped together! Cheers - Matt
  11. Typically a wet/lead acid battery will put out fumes and in the event of a crash, could rupture so most folk suggest a sealed battery at least. If you're going to the trouble of relocating it, I would recommend a proper race battery like a Varley or Odyssey - this is the route I'll be taking when it comes to battery relocation 👍🏻
  12. That's heartbreaking to see, such a clean car! I knew I should have bought this when I had the chance!! Fingers crossed it'll live to see another day.
  13. They don't look to the best quality but they'll do for now, I've spotted that they were a bit flimsy inside already and so I've seen to that before starting to fit them. For what I gave for them, if they last a month I'll be satisfied. The long term plan is to replace all the gauges with Defi but I've got bigger jobs to do first.
  14. Haha well spotted! The short answer is that Mk1's aren't built for Turbos/intercoolers/60mm alloy rads and so it was the only place we could put it. What you can't see is the huge gap beneath it between the chassis leg and inner wing and so it had more than enough air flow, plus I typically ran it with no grill and so we curved the intercooler end tank and angled the air filter so that you could actually see it from the front: direct air flow 🙂 Think this angle kinda shows what I mean. Either way, it worked a treat, I had a thermostatic sandwich plate set at 80 degrees and it rare
  15. Not much to update but the weather is ok so I did a few little jobs today as and when I got chance. This one is more for reference than anything else but now the box is off I can clearly see that it's recently had a Fidanza lightened flywheel (Socks sold the previous owner this) and also it has a Comp Clutch Stage 4 clutch kit which looks to be in great health. (171,074) Apart from that, I've recently bought a set of gauges, nothing flash, just some electrical gauges so I can monitor oil temp, pressure and water temp as a back up. I've already got a HKS boost gauge and my EBC shows boost
  16. So I finally got round to getting the gearbox out this weekend after Socks practically bullying me into it and some help from one of the best mechanics I've ever met!! From start to finish it took him just 45mins to remove all the ancillaries and then remove the box (including a mid-job brew break) so god knows what's taken me so long 🙄 Anyway box is now out, that'll be off for a rebuild at some point this coming week and I'll find out what's been causing the grinding and sticking in gear I've had. How it sits now. Ill be doing a load of other assorted jobs whilst it's out,
  17. That's great thanks for that. So the braided line is essentially just an extension line to get the sender away from the block?
  18. Folks I've got a set of aftermarket 52mm electrical gauges ready to go in and I'm just starting to look into the best way to fit everything. Should be ok wiring the gauges in on the most part but the big question is where/how to mount the oil pressure sender unit? I've yet to find a difinitve solution that isn't essentially a bodge. Can anyone with a similar set up post some pics of how they've done it with a brief explanation? Cheers all - Matt
  19. The simple fact is that it was TOO clean and TOO good to actually use. I couldn't leave it anywhere and every time I drove it I was on egg shells in case I damaged it. In the end I was offered strong money for it and I couldn't help but let it go. Plus my Glanza came up for sale about a week before mine sold so I just figured it was meant to be 😂 Sold Mk1 on my birthday, two hours later I drove the Glanza home!
  20. I've been a forum member for quite some time but since buying my car in October I've not found the time or not remembered to start a build thread. You can thank Socks for kicking my arse into gear
  21. Whilst it's half time I figured I'd post a few pics of the car I sold to get into a Glanza. I should mention that I live on Socks doorstep and I've spent far too many hours talking to him about how good these cars are and eventually I've bought one. But before this I built a 20VT'd Mk1 Golf: One with Sock's 2ZZ Glanza for good measure... as quick as my Mk1 was, this thing really is on another level. For those lucky enough to have had a ride in it, you'll know what I mean!! Just thought I'd give you an idea of what to expect from my Glanza in the coming months. In the meantime
  22. Ok so another spare 10 mins to continue getting this thread up to date! One big problem with me and small cars is that I'm 6'4" so with the standard seats I look like a frog on a walnut!! In my Mk1 Golf I had some Corbeau Club Sports and got on really well with them, so I decided another pair would do the job. I bought some Bride rails off Charlie and bolted everything in. Rails fitted perfectly but I had to have the side mounts widened to accommodate the XL size Corbeau's as they're slightly wider than a Bride seat. Like a glove ☺ The obligatory Cruise gear knob finished the job.
  23. So picking up where I left off at the end of 2016, I have since had the car sat on axle stands ready for gearbox to come out but the weather and a holiday has fouled play. I did find time to do a few other jobs, mostly in the dark or rain or both! First up was to clean up and fit a brake kit I bought off Amjad - Celica calipers etc. Should make a good difference. Shame to remove the old brakes as they were practically brand new and super clean but I'll be needing the extra stopping power! After a good clean and a lick of paint, on they went And I started taking everything apart rea
  24. Hello all, After much persuasion from Socks to start a progress blog, I've finally got round to making a start on one. I bought my Glanza on my birthday in October last year, from another club member just down the road from me in Gainsborough. I gave fairly strong money for it but it was a super clean car with a TD04 kit, some brand spanking new Meister-R's and fresh paint so it was a good base. It was mapped by Ricky at RT not so long ago and made 202bhp @ 0.8 bar so it felt pretty quick too. It had just had all new wheel bearings, new brakes amongst a load of other work, plus ple
  25. Before I buy a set off eBay etc and make my own mounts, has anyone got a set of good, clean Recaros adapted to fit an EP91 that they're willing to part with? Evo/Honda etc what you got? Cheers - Matt
