  1. Guys,

Lots of discussion in the other thread about the ECU: http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/104082-introduction-from-us-at-me/

This is the Group Buy page. For technical questions please use the other thread above.

The group buy is for 5 of each type of ECU, namely, EP91 or EP82. The final product (currently we are up and running on wire-in variants to work everything out, and I can confirm the system is working well, and basemaps are now being produced) will be very much like our popular MX5 PnP ECU as pictured below:

It will fit the OEM case, and simply plug and run with all stock sensors, and give full mapping with our free tuning studio, the MEITE, which you can download from our website to have a look through here: https://motorsport-electronics.co.uk/software-manuals/

The final units also the use of the Hi/Lo button for map switching, as well as all the usual features of the ME221 such as closed loop boost control, knock control, launch/ALS, as well as allow you to run COPs and sequential injection (by adding some wires to the loom), though the dizzy and standard setup are supported out the box. We also provide basemaps so you can start and drive the car in an 'OEM' trim, as well as releasing further maps as we tune the cars here (and our other dealers also tune them) so standard mod sets will be supported. Also note the ECU has full in-built auto tune so if you have a wideband you can self tune as well.

The Retail price is going to be £645inc VAT, the group buy price is £545inc VAT, including shipping to the UK. For an example of the units ease of fitment and tuning, see the MX5 related videos here:

Delivery will be most likely End of December, or Jan 2017. Once the list is complete we will take payments via our website portal as normal (paypal) and then push the button!

    Pop your names down guys!

  2. I briefly seen antilag mentioned either here or facebook. Will this be a feature? If so how will this run or will we need additional wiring/valves

Karl correct, you will need to trigger ALS/Launch Control via another input on the ECU (by connecting that pin to ground) and once that happens ALS/VSS launch etc will take over. You can run air injecton valves but even without ALS will spool the turbo quite well...

  3. For boost control, we will be using the VSV valve wiring. So if you want to use the ME221s proper closed loop boost control, simply replace the valve with a MAC (or one of our boost control valves) and you can then use the proper closed loop (giving boost by gear etc) boost control.

This the valves location on the EP91 is behing the drivres headlight, on top of the ABS module.

... further.. the EP91 is now up and running!!

  4. Lots of interest here, which is great to see as it means the efforts so far have been worth it :)

In terms of specs, its easier if you guys ask direct questions, i.e, the Apexi has a XxY table size, what does the ME221 have? (16X16), Accuracy? (0.001ms fuelling, 0.01 degress timing, 20k RPM) is it a VE or PW based system (Modelled VE of course ;) ) etc, the spec list is huge so its a case of asking what you think it should have rather than what does it have :)

Feel free to download the software from our website and grab a calibration file as well so you can have a play with it... That will show alot of the options and configuration of the ECU - anything else, please don;t hesitate to ask! (the MEITE is what you need)

Today we aim to get the EP91 up and running and base-mapped, then, as a project, its a case of working out AC connectivity, then laying the PCBs out for small batch production, its at that point we do the whole group buy thing in preparation for the PCBs arriving (which will be around Xmas time) ready to ship out in the new year...

  5. So it's really only beneficial to cars running 200+. Shame really. not really a 'plug and play' unit as such. Aside from fitting in the original ecu shell. What benefit does it have over other standalone units currently on the market?

We have a very open ethos with our maps - as we map more and more cars with differnt mod sets, people can use said maps at will - for example one of the test cars is an EP82 with Td04 - it made just over 220bhp at 1.1Bar - a perfect starting point if you have a similar setup. The ECU also has autotune, so if you have a wideband, you can road map it...

Benefits wise depends on what other PnPs are out there - if you could give a run down that would be great? We only really saw piggbacks as the current option - yes you could go for a wire-on, but thats adding £400+ to the install costs, and the trouble it can bring as well.

If someone can give details on what the Blitz ECU has as a feature set (I assume its just mapped for a bit more boost) then we can of course release 'Blitz' style maps - then you can of course optimise the map for your car ;)

here's some mapping on our dyno earlier...

  6. Hi everyone in the Starlet world :)

I'm Matt from Motorsport Electronics Limited, here the UK, and along with Alex we make the core development team here for the ME221 Engine management System. We were approached by a customer of ours who runs our PnP ME221 for the MX5, and he suggested the EP82/EP91 as a good car to tackle next, well, we have done so, and are well on the way to producing a fully standalone, Plug and Play ECU for both variants.

If you havent heard of us, or the ME221 ECU, have a look around the web - we brought out an MX5 PnP ECU based on our own ME221 control platform a little over a year ago and it took the UK by storm - all the major MX-5 tuners now use and recommend our ECU - its affordable, accurate, reliable - put by most - "it just works!".

We use the same core, only layout a new PCB to suit the EP's connectivity and ECU casing (that's right it fits in the factory ECU case, replacing the stock PCB) and then gives full mapping abilities, 16x16 tables, launch control, boost control, knock control, anti-lag etc etc, the list goes on, and of course it runs with all factory sensors (sure upgrade to a 4 bar map sensor or 800cc injectors, the ME221 supports it!) as well as adding fully sequential fuel and ignition (yes, junk the dizzy and run COPs!)

We will post up some more info shortly including some videos, but for now, here's the ME221 in its 'MX-5' form:

Once development is completed, which we aim to be a couple of weeks from now, we will hold group buys for both the EP82 and EP91 variants. Retail pricing is going to be £645inc for both versions, and includes all features as standard.- group buy pricing tba.

We also have full rolling road and engine dyno cell facilities here in Wiltshire, as well as a network of approved ME221 centres all over the UK, so the ECU is well supported.

    Cheers everyone!
