Hi mate. I was reminiscing with a mate the other day and I did a google image search for starlet turbos and was shocked when one of the first pics that popped up was my old car, which led me here. I got the car imported from Japan in 2005 it was sourced by a guy in Bradford who imported cars for a living. I’d been looking for one of these for ages so I was buzzing when I finally got to pick it up and drive it the 200+ miles back to Suffolk. I had a little play with a Clio 182 on the way back but felt a bit of a tit when I hit the speed limiter at erm 71mph 😉
I think the car was on 56,000km at this point and it was totally standard, even had the warning flair in the passenger footwell. I got it back home and the very next day took it to a local motorsports place and had the clocks changed to mph and the speed limiter removed. I kept the car for 6 years and in all honesty I never really thrashed it... apart from the odd drag race around town. It’d embarrass most things off the lights and It never gave me any jip. In my time I lowered it 40mm, s/s exhaust, window tints, new rims a few little engine mods like an air filter, ht leads. Nothing major. Pretty sure I put a strut brace on it as well.
I sold the car to a guy in Cornwall he seemed as enthusiastic as I was when I first bought it. I never really wanted to sell it tbh but I needed the money for a deposit on a house and it wasn’t getting a great deal of use as I had a work van to potter about in. The guy I sold it to took all the standard parts with it... wheels, exhaust, shocks, warning flair. I think he intended on turning it back to oem.
I’ve definitely got pictures of it standard and from when I sold it. They’re on an old laptop that belongs to my ex but I reckon if I ask her nicely she’ll email them over 😬
Really good to see it’s still about though, a lot of fond memories in that car. Hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I and the countless bimbos that rode shotgun with me back in a time when things where much simpler did.
