  1. So slow progress at the moment, but still determined to be ready for spring action day at castle coombe. The o/s front brake was binding badly so a rebuild was in order, I nabbed a pair of used calipers on ebay and a genuine Toyota rebuild kit, along with new pads and drilled and grooved discs. The colour might not be to everyone's taste but I like it. Nice easy job except for stripping the multiple layers of old paint off. And the wife was on hand to help bleed them up. Also bled the clutch at the same time, refilled the gearbox and transfer box with s
  2. Cheers, no launches though, I don't want to break it lol.
  3. I'm not aiming for big power and want to keep it driveable. The standard clutch should be fine for my target. And I plan to drive it a bit more sympathetically than that lol.
  4. No, looks like old oil in the bell housing, and what looks like oil on the old clutch is actually the spline lube that has flung outwards, other than that it was totally dry.
  5. So anyway, it's nearly back together, I've had enough for today, clutch is in and box back on. The rest should be easy. I will be rebuilding these calipers Got a rebuild kit from Id workz and currently striping all the many layers of paint away ready for a fresh coat. Will be having a fresh set of pads and new drilled and grooved discs. Will be refilling the gearbox and transfer box with fresh oil, and will do the rear diff at the same time. And I have a decat pipe for the ct9 that I will throw on as I piece it back together. So that's it for today I'll be back on
  6. So a bit more progress, or not.... When I imported the starlet, my importer told me that in his opinion it felt like it needed a new clutch in the not too distant future. So that was today's job Unfortunately it seems like a wasted day, as the clutch I removed looks brand new. Still at least I know now, and I've learnt how to change a clutch as its a job I've never tackled before.
  7. Not overly modified as it's my daily/family car but they're cracking motors. The orange one had to go to make room for the starlet
  8. Haha yeah, neighbours all love German diesel rubish. My other car is a Nissan cube I imported a few years back. My first car was German (mk 2 jetta) but I have zero interest in the VAG scene or any other German makes.
  9. Not much progress at the moment, trying to recover financially from Christmas and the coilovers. Decided to chop some holes in the Bootlid to try and give it the proper glanza look from the rear. I can honestly say it's the first time I've ever taken a grinder to a perfectly good panel haha. I know it's the wrong colour but I'll worry about that later.
  10. Sorry not sorry lol. Was a lot of interest on Facebook when I shared the auction pics, naturally I didn't share them until after I'd won the auction 😂. 4x4 really doesent work like you'd expect. Behaves like a rear wheel drive if you get too enthusiastic with the noisy pedal.
  11. Thanks, I'll get out and measure as soon as I get a chance.
  12. Thanks, will the ae86 bits fit straight on or will they need to be modified? I'm already having great fun even at stock 4efte power, I didn't expect it to be so tail happy, spins the rears up nicely on the wet roads.
  13. Cheers mate, I've had this week off work hence the progress, I'm back to working 60hr weeks from next week so things will slow down a lot lol. Stock height on the 4wd's is crazy. The front bumper is currently sat in my back garden, it was clearly never meant to go on a starlet, but for the life of me I can't work out what car it was designed for. A lot of the modifications to the car had been done to a very low standard, thankfully the engine swap was done right.
  14. So more progress and more problems. I couldn't just leave those coilovers sat in their box, so despite the lousy British weather I decided to get them on. These cars are so bloody easy to work on. It's fair to say it was sitting a little high. Started with the rears just to make sure I had been sent the correct kit. Don't really need to put pictures of me doing the other side, it's all the same. Front next And the end result and just for comparison Will still need to sort the panhard rod, and get it in for an ali
  15. Still undecided on that, I know that e-manage is more than capable for my target, however I can't help feeling a full standalone is going to be the best option, for reliability and future mods such as cop. I am very interested in the me221/me442 units, however I haven't seen a lot of feedback on these. Other options I'm considering are link or haltech but the instillation is obviously a bit more involved.
  16. It's a wepr kit, the turbo I'll be fitting is a tf035 from a forester, same fitment as td04 but slightly smaller and quicker spooling. I'm only aiming for 200bhp so I felt the tf035 will suit it better.
  17. Cheers guys. Today I solved the elusive boost leak, by replacing the intercooler and all associated pipework. All boosting correctly now and looking much better too. And in other news, the postman has been again. It might be a while until that gets fitted though as there's a fair few bits needed still to make it all work.
  18. So having a break from turbo stuff, today I decided to tackle the grotty interior. The previous owner in Japan had decided to badly spray paint the interior black, it was horrible and needs to go. New dash door cards etc all fitted, good few hours work but worth it. And the postman has been today I'll see if I can get these fitted this week. Not sure how to tackle the panhard rod though as you can't get an adjustable one for the 95
  19. VID_20201114_155738.mp4 VID_20201114_155738.mp4 So unfortunately this doesent solve my problems, the strange high pitch rattle/squeal is gone (yes I did check the turbo for play) and in hindsight it was brobably just one of the heat shields as they were all missing bolts. The noise has however been replaced by a high pitch whine when on boost. Now I'm no mechanic and new to turbocharged stuff so had to ask Facebook. (the obvious choice when wanting advice 😜) most people seemed to think it's a boost leak, and this seems to tie in with the fact that it only does it under load. This of
  20. All goes smoothly and I find that with enough mapp gas even the most stubborn of nuts and bolts come loose All except this one, but as this picture was taken before I attempted to remove it, it was obvious that this would shear from the start, however with more gas and some mole grips it was soon out. And at this point you all get to have a laugh at the state of the exhaust. I think a custom system may be required to replace this mess
  21. So despite already having a wepr on order I decide to look for a ct9 manifold just to keep me going for the time being. Had a small crack in it, which the seller kindly welded up for me before sending. quite a difference from the stock manifold
  22. First drive, lots of funny noises when boosting. Good news is that engine gearbox and drivetrain all seem healthy, so I start digging and find a big crack in the manifold. VID_20201107_121558.mp4
  23. So fast forward a few months and it arrives, condition is every bit as rough as I was expecting. Underneath looks pretty good for the age, but of surface corrosion that will be duly treated but no real penetration. And of course the important part
  24. So time to start a progress thread so that I can remember what I've done. So to set the scene I was looking to import a glanza from Japan as a bit of a toy and something to tinker with. Not being one to do things by halves, and liking to make life difficult for myself, when an ep95 that had already been 4efte converted went through the auctions it was only going to end one way.
