  1. 17 When I bought it. 30 now..
  2. Add lightness and set the car up properly.
  3. Few small updates - Picked up a billet Garret GTX2971R Fitted up mostly But I may have a new distraction
  4. Alright it's been a while since I last updated. First up I got it tuned and it currently has 173 extremely linear hp at the wheels. Overlaying it against my 280 hp graph is disappointing. Polished the inlet manifold and added some color. If it's slow at least it can look pretty. Anyway, took it out to QR for a shakedown. Initial feel and throttle response is great. Lost the bolt which stops the throttle body over extending so that ended the day prematurely. Next up was Jamboree. I wanted to run the gas but couldnt justify the cost of a new clutch just to run it for 1 day. Threw some old slicks on and straightened the wheels. Ran consistant 12.3's all day with a 12.2 @ 108mph at the end of the day All Motor. Very happy with that considering the hp. The 6speed gearbox feels amazing compared to the starlet box. 4th gear burnouts along with 8500rpm limiter and dump the clutch all day long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra_vTIr9lio I then went back to QR with my issues solved. Also trialled a new light weight splitter. Car is feeling very strong and balanced. Ran consistently all day without backing off. A little bit of understeer in the low speed corners though. Ended up cracking the 300mm rotors on both sides so went home early. After that I headed to lakeside where momentum is rewarded much more than outright hp. Took some getting used to as I havnt been back there in 5 years. Got stuck in traffic most of the day. Just when I got a clear run, I hit some debris entering Hungry and went wide off the track. Splitter is destroyed (underneath too) front bar is also heavily damaged. So I need to do some repairs and the plan is to get back to lakeside for the end of august. I've bought a 70mm billet TB and some 440cc injectors. Thinking about some cams too. After that maybe a rotrex or a turbo. 450hp on std engine sounds pretty good to me.
  5. Thanks Guys, I was after something a little different after my last engine gave up. It's a K20Z4 and gearbox. Plan A was a Kawasaki zx14 engine/gearbox + turbo. Was deemed too hard/not reliable enough. Enter Honda power. I've got a heap more pictures and details I'll update later. It's actually pretty involved getting one of these in there. Especially when you ram it this far back to improve the weight distribution. Will also have a 125hp shot of nos to get it moving on the drag strip for Jamboree this year,
  6. Well it was an eventful end to the year. A very wet track was no good for PB's but I managed to be at least 3 seconds a lap quicker than zuboo and miles ahead of the rest. Another First in Class and First outright for the day. This being the 6th and final round I also received 2 first trophies for the Season. The Zuboo boys cleaned up. There is another 2 trophies from the street series too. Multiple excursions off the track, including getting beached in the rocks after turn 1. After the final session the engine started to get a be hot. Could be head gasket or could be some damage from the rocks into the radiator. All in all the engine felt brilliant. Couldn't be happy with the $200 block. Now we rebuild for next year
  7. Got off the dyno after a little check. Pinged coming on boost and was the same up top. Pretty reflective of slightly more CR. 192hp on 11psi. Actuator pressure brings the boost on pretty gradually. Given the stock engine, might be for the best. 7200rpm limit, stock 5efe
  8. I didn't know any of you guys followed WTAC, I've been heading down the last 5 years with the Mighty mouse honda CRX. He managed 3rd in Pro AM. I had my doubts about how quick the sva car would be but it certainly proved itself with a 1:29 with all the obvious issues they were having. Was gutted watching the driver have to run across a live race track to get his own fire extinguisher as the car burned Andy Forest was a top guy to chat to. One of the friendliest guys I've ever met. He did absolutely everything he could to get another box in it for Saturday but it ended up being far too much work. Had a good chat to his wife too. Holy shit that woman knows her subies! WTAC is definately at the pinnacle for time attack racing.
  9. 1.6's mostly
  10. I haven't been deterred. Trying to think of a way to progress in the future, I have bought a toyota paseo to keep me going in the mean time. 170 000km 5efe Auto Bolt-ons baby! It's at the dyno now for a conservative tune. Should hopefully see me out the year of racing. 11 months of updates in an Hour!!!
  11. Last Month I headed out to the 5th round of open sprints with some new tires. Just so happened porshe had a club day on at the same time. Finished 2nd outright only to lose to a radical and 1st in class. Managed to turn 5 laps before a big end came knocking... Results: A few shattered Porsche egos. Ben came in just behind me in the zuboo racing k20 swift. http://racing.natsoft.com.au/637380663/object_995546.85I/Result?1 New 205-50-15 Yokies! 1x spun big end 3x severely worn big ends, 1x damaged crank, 4x marked pistons and bores and shredded oil pump as well.
  12. Next up it went back to the Drags for Jamboree. I got 3 qualifying runs in. an 11.4 and 2x 11.2's with a badly slipping clutch. I turned down the boost for Sunday eliminations to fix the clutch issues which worked. We ran Chicago shootout for eliminations. I won the first 2 rounds. Final round I was against Josh where he let me win but I still managed to screw it up and break out pulling another 11.2 on an 11.3 dial in all with less boost and a worse launch You can hear the 2-step. It builds around 8-10psi quickly Clutch slipping badly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2fpf2MYFwc Final eliminations and return road.... I still dont get why it went this quick. Turned down to 260hp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj9FNH3yLhU Outside view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xgr0SlN7gv8
  13. Trip to the dyno in August. Installed a 3 stage switch for boost selection and a 2-step rev limite + steering wheel button. 3-way switch on dash lets me selet what the button on the steering wheel does. It's either a 2-step rev limiter or an overboost button which reverts to the highest map. Was interesting... Boost controller died, tps died, spark plugs died, clutch slipped, injectors maxed, turbo pretty much maxed. Last time on that dyno actuator plumbed directly to turbo it ran 184hp on 14psi and 242hp on 20psi. Im guessing it was a little low, it was on semislicks and also ran 11.1 @ 124mph on that tune This time the boost controller blew a hole in it's side and oozed molten plastic out :s (yes it went through the floods in 2011). Tried to run actuator pressure through a new controller. Boost crept up to 18psi. It was extremely gradual and pretty much exactly what I wanted, just a little high hp (247 - Blue line). So that's with both boost switches off. Boost setting 1 we mimicked the last curve the best we could pulling boost per rpm. Same peak hp but meatier in the middle. The second setting I wanted everything. I left the wheel alignment in circuit spec because, well, i'm lazy, and it wheel spun. We strapped it down hard over the to of the hubs. Green line is 20psi/260hp. Red Line is 22psi/275hp where the clutch started slipping. The boost comes on late due to restricting to get the clutch to hold. My injectors were 95% duty at this point and with the clutch we decided to leave it there. We set the 2 step up at 5000rpm. It makes 10psi almost instantly. I rarely drag race and don't have a clutch position sensor, wheel speed sensor ect, so we left launch control alone. The cool part is Matty wired up a three way switch between the steering wheel button and the autronic. So with the switch up the button activates the 2 step. When its down it operates as a 'push to pass' where regardless of which boost setting I'm on, It will switch to the full boost map while depressed. This is what we used on the dyno to get over that peak torque point before throwing 22psi into it. That's the 1000rpm lag in the curve. I went out to willowbank last week for a play (slippery) and ran a 11.5 @ 120mph with the 20psi tune. Ran great all night and fairly consistent. I've thrown the extra 2psi in it for Jamboree. I guess I'll see on the day if the clutch holds (It also went for a swim in 2011). Also tested our United E85. Came up 90% ethanol and 10% good looking petrol (Honey trickle). Tested some Caltex E80 and it came up 75% Ethanol and 25% Pink petrol.
