3s-gte Problems (gt-four)
TBDevelopments replied to haggis88's topic in Alternative Engine Discussions
i do these engines day in, day out lol give me a PM buddy and i'll talk you through it from start to finish Tim TB Developments ps, the 3sgte is a very very good engine, if you keep breaking them your obviously not looking after them properly lol i mean we've had a tad under 1000bhp from a 3sgte and still going strong. -

it looks really simple but its quite time involved. Firstly i remove all the orignial switch gear, and then brige the holes together, so you end up with one big slot. i had to then file the middle down slightly to enlarge the gap so the boost controller would slide into the gap. Once this was done i masking taped up the boost controller to use it as a mould and fixed it into the piece, then blanked the sides and front with masking tap and made a reseviour at the back using carboard. Once you've got a sealed area i filled this will a chemical plastic material called "alumalight" once this goes hard its basically plastic and bonds very well to the orignal piece. Once this was done i could pop the boost controller out the back and i've got a very basic shape of what i wanted. I orignally tried to get a nice tight gap around the controller but throught it would look better just blended into the panel as one. So i took the boost controller apart, removed the glass from the front and the buttons. with the front piece removed i glued this into the panel, and then filled all the edges with a flexable bumper filler (needs to be flexable as the plastic will expand when it gets hot in the summer) just a few hours of sanding to make the fill pieces and the controller front look as one without any filler imperfections. When this is finished everything got cleaned with panel wipe and then 2 coats of a plastic polymer primer, this basically gives normal primers something to grip to. Then 3 layers of highbuild filler primer. Good sand, this brought up a couple of low spots which were corrected and then another 3 layers of high build filler primer, and a good sand firstly with 280grit then 400grit. when i used a satin black plastic paint to finish it off, this had 3 good layers at 15min intervals to give a good coverage, after the last 15mins had passed i got the piece infront of a heater and applied the final coat which was a dusting, basically went over the panel front about 3ft back, and because of the heat the paint was basically dry as soon as it hit the panel so didn't get a wet edge covering, this gives it a slight textured effect to match the rest of the plastics in the car. i left it overnight, next day i just reassembled the boost controller together and slight it into the face from the rear, inserted the glass in the front and all is good ;) oh the original buttons were a chrome effect and nothing else in the car was chrome so i thought it would look more factory in black to match the panel. so gave these a good key with scotchbright, plastic primered and then straight into satin black. i didn't want to highbuild these as i would loose the grip detail set into the plastic. so far there all good, not worn off Job done Tim TB Developments -

yeah thats us, i set up a small club and forum to help with the advertising of the business and for the customers who are all like minded people to chat about there cars etc. so at the main shows we organise a show stand mainly so we can all part up together and catch up. yeah the red with black roof was an mr2. thats the one i said about that just made 450bhp and 370ft/lbs at 1.2bar of boost. not at all mate, nice to see it getting some attension ;) The stand was for my business, alot of the cars on there i've had a hand in building, unfortunatly one of our drag cars blew an oilfilter relocation line half way down the track and caught fire probably saw us trying to burn the remaining oil out the engine bay before we could rerun after repairing it. Also the red one just to the right of the picture is another customers car, just developed 450bhp and 370ft/lbs at 1.2bar of boost on its initial mapping session, going back in a few weeks to be mapped to 1.8bar and have the 100shot of nitrous activated and this is an everyday road car Tim TB Developments -

thats mate for the kind comments and the business plug onyl got round to doing the panard rod today and the rear ARB, its definitly made a difference, back feels alot more planted but i'm not happy with the way its fitted (as it is an upgrade over a replacement) and the way its mounted is a bit getto for my liking, but this is understandable really as there was never a factory bar to upgrade. So i think i'm going to get hold of another rear axle and using the whiteline bar completely redesign the kit so there are proper mounting points on the axle over the hoop style additions. Also i don't like how it hangs underneith so i'll probably move it to the front of the axle and have the arms go towards the front of hte car instead of trailing back, with properly welded on bodymounts as i can see the orignal setup (holes drilled into the chassis leg) ovalling up over time and causing a knocking. But all in good time. this is a spare time kinda project and it runs just fine at the mo :-D Tim TB Developments -

bit of an update, i've fitted the blitz nurspec system, really helped with the breathing at topend, it doesn't feel so strangled now near redline. really nice system ) i went for the full system back to the cat. Only downside is it really shows up where the previous owner had bodged the rear bumper to get the previous exhaust in, so now i'm on the look out for a new rear bumper, or the addition lip spoiler to match the front one I also fitted my stereo from my old mr2 into the car, i was getting so bored just driving around with no music to listen to, this is just a temporary thing as i really want to sink it back into the dash a little more so the screen is flush with the panel, but that will come in time I also fitted my Blitz DSBC, its just being used as a fancy boost gauge at the moment until i get the new turbo on there and then connect up the solenoid. One of my pet hates is that aftermarket stuff is just thrown on the dash where ever, i like to keep things factory looking so i got another centre panel and made this up. I think its come out really well and retains the factory look. and it lights up green as well so matches everything. Tim TB Developments -

i plan to mate, i paid enough for it and waited over a year to find one i liked then another 3 months to get it from japan. once my mr2 is finished i'll use that for a few weeks and take this off the road and do the same treatment i did with the mr2, which is to replace every last bush and service item like bearings etc etc, powdercoat all the suspension members and completely underseal and stone chip protect the car top to bottom. thanks guys, the white mr2 isn't mine its a customer build i did a few months back and ongoing thing, its only running a detuned 320bhp as he uses it everyday but also competes in the shakespear SDS drag series, Its braket racing so hes doing well, won 3 of his 5 events and come 2nd in the 4th, 5th was rained off i'm not sure what i have planned for it really, i have a 500bhp road going mr2 in the works as well but i just have enough time at the moment because of the business so this was meant to be a simple everyday car i wasn't going to play with but as you can tell by the parts its not going to plan, haha The exhaust in the pictures is off the car now and for sale, its been replaced with a blitz nur spec r full system which helped with the topend, I've also got a Blitz K1 200v turbocharger being rebuilt as we speak to make it like brand new. I'm holding out for a Jam Racing manifold so i can get it all ceramic coated and then that will be the exhaust breathing all sorted. Gonna throw a walbro pump in there and uprated regulator, Also got a Blitz CS front mount IC on the way as we speak. I've also got a methanol injection kit that i used to use on the mr2 to go on, i'll fit the updated version to the mr2 so this older version was going spare so thought what the hell. that will probably be my limit. from what i'm reading if i stay within the limits of the stock fuel injectors on a safe map it should still be prietty quick and stay reliable, especially with the methanol. If i can make about 180fwhp i'll be happy. Probably kill the clutch so i'll do the normal flywheel, clutch etc when that happens. I don't really want to get into engine internals etc as its an everyday car, but i know seeing i'm an engine building i'll probably build a short block up just incase it goes pop. lol Also on the look out for a factory LSD box as i know its not much power but when i have a play i find myself spinning up 1st through 3rd in the bends, well 1 wheel spinning up i should say. lol crappy normal diffs Tim TB Developments -

Hope you guys don't mind me posting this up, this is my new little glanza. its become my everyday car and workhorse for the business, gotta say for a little 1.3 i'm loving it great little cars and another bonus is i get to know the cars so i can offer services and upgrades on them with the rest of the business. Bought the car as a straight import and collected it 25th september 2009 1999 Starlet Glanza 38,008 Miles on the clock came with KYB Specials suspension alround Blitz Turbotimer "Aftermarket" exhaust (rattling and driving me nuts) Buddyclub P1 Alloys The cars really tidy for a 10 year old car, only down points are alot of rattles and squeeks, i'm slowing working my way through them, ordered a few bits from toyota to fix the couple of bits missing, one being the parcel shielf, which without it is making the rear hatch rattle, and the front grill was missing. (no idea why and no accident damage) anyway ordered those. what you guys think. While on the search for a few tuning goodies i found this in japan so snapped it up. Its a rare blitz Cast iron downpipe. the goal of this car is to do things once as its an everyday car so i can't have parts breaking like downpipes and stainless downpipes are prone for cracking (very much like the mr2 ones used to be, possible future product ) but until i make those i boguht this as its built like a tank and no way in hell of falling apart. Its 2.25" through out and same diameter so all the benifits of the stainless downpipes but none of the draw backs I've been shopping around and bought a few little goodies, a few rare bits and bobs and some JDM things. Firstly was the Flair, there quite rare to see them still fitted so i had a spare so fitted that I also got a TRD gearknob to replace the cheap plastic thing that it came imported with, Once i get some time i'm going to fit a small washer to just under the knob so the gaitor gets sandwiched between that and the knob as i don't like how the gaitor just slips up and down the shifter as standard. Another little mod which is apprently quite rare is the factory option arm rest and storage bin, looks a little afterthought buts its quite comfortable having the arm rest in there, the materials a little faided but i'll retrim that when i do the new front seats anyway to match Lastly was something i knocked up last week while i was at my fabricators while i was sitting around waiting for him to finish jobs, i took the HKS bov off my old mr2 and just made up the fitting kit and a small fitting for the breather to fit into the stock position (normally bolts to the factory bov and both vent into the intake pipe) My blitz airfilter arrived from japan today, unfortunatly the blitz nurspec i also ordered was the wrong one, just the backbox and not the full system so theres going to be a battle getting my money back Anyway airfilter sorted. throttle responce in a little better but more importantly it doesn't feel like it suffercates as much topend. before After I also had another suprise come through the post today, it was like christmas The wheel nuts were bugging me as most of the nickle had fell off and just looked rough so gone with some nice new anodized blue ones to match the blue wheel logos plus its very JDM I also fitted my new MOMO Tuner steering wheel as that standard boat wheel was driving me nuts, next will be to get a new carpet (fix the years of no matt abuse by the drive) and finish the dash centre panel and fit the radio. not much of an update this week, i found a spare few mins so got my old radio in from the mr2 as it was getting annoying not having any music to listen to, while i was fitting that i also upgraded the 2 front (only 2) speakers as the old ones were prietty damaged and basically dead Tim TB Developments

yeah best to do it without the engine running, as being a raising rate it will also reduce fuel pressure when its seeing a vaccum line idle. so if you set it to 33psi with a vacuum and the difference is 10psi like scot-ish says then your true base fuel pressure will be 43psi not 33psi. Tim TB Developments

TBDevelopments replied to adz_sportif_turbo's topic in Ignition & Fueling
probably easiest way to explain it buddy is to just say that both standard and aftermarket are raising rate fuel pressure regulators. but where the stock one i fixed at 33psi (i believe) which is your base fuel pressure the adjustable one you can set the base fuel pressure at what ever you want. like 50psi. Now the raising bit just means that the fuel pressure increases 1:1 with the boost pressure your reading. So if you look at your boost gauge its at 0 which means the stock fuel pressure is 33psi. Now if you run 1 bar of boost the fuel pressure will increase the same amount, so 33psi base fuel pressure plus 1 bar of boost (14.7psi) is 47.7psi fuel pressure Now say your running the same setup but with an adjustale pressure regulator set at 50psi. So 50psi base fuel pressure plus 1 bar of boost (14.7psi) is 65.7psi fuel pressure Now the stock ecu doesn't have any means to measuring fuel pressure so it doesn't know that you've increased the fuel pressure. And the extra pressure might give you an extra 20cc of fuel flow through the injectors (just an example number). so this extra 20cc of fuel flow is what keeps your fueling correct running 1 bar of boost pressure. Now where its bad and why we've said to run a fueling computer ideally is say your driving along normally, cruise. The fuel ratios at 33psi FP will be correct, now when your at 50psi FP you will be getting more fuel than needed which means the engine is running rich and will kill fuel consumption and engine power/torque. Hope that helps explain it a little better but feel free to ask if your still unsure about bits on the fuel pressure regulator. Tim TB Developments
