  1. They certainly aren't the best, but they are ok if not pushed too hard. We have repaired a lot over the years. We are bringing out 2 new hybrids. These should perform the best and be reliable. This will be backed up with a 12 month no quibble warranty if fitted and setup by us.
  2. Yes, Its VERY easy to lose power, drivability or balance across the cylinders. If one cylinder flows better than another, you will experience poor driving around town. Then a dangerous condition on boost, which could lead to engine failure. Whats very difficult is achieving balance at low gas speed, and still achieving a balance at higher flow levels.
  3. This would spool worse than turbo's already out there and it wouldn't give 2 bar, it would give 1 bar with more flow. Compound charged is the way to go, but probably not on a starlet. We have done it on other cars. But on a starlet kits like our GT28 kit spool up great and make lots of power anyway.
  4. Really? We designed ours on CAD and altered it a few times. Of course, experience, dyno testing, and a knowledge of fluid dynamics as well as help from a few people that work in fluid dynamics for large companies helped us along the way. We are working on another intake. But the price rules it out for starlets.
  5. What are you suggesting? What doesn't make sense? There are gains to be had swapping intakes before 350hp, before 250 infact. But it doesn't mean you cannot go above that figure.
  6. Hello, Our very latest intakes are pretty much exactly as you have said. We always went for the raised stacks and realistically the longest runner that is viable within the construction. On the very latest intakes we tapered the runners as well and were happy with the results.
  7. Much less than you'd think to be honest. Surface finish doesn't make a deal of difference because of a "boundry layer" there is hardly any gas speed at the surface. Sometimes a sharp edge can help you, as it causes the gases to "tumble" and move in a certain direction easier.
  8. Yes, you aim for a specific size, then the shape is used, along with any method to improve flow. I.e. stacks, base plate. To balance the flow across the cylinders. The shape is also important for a number of other reasons. The intake I have drawn up today actually will perform very will, and the construction method will keep down the cost.
  9. I haven't got a standard one, and to be honest don't think we will do any more. We are currently working on a super cheap intake. They haven't got velocity stacks inside. Just a taper on the base of the plenum. But the cost is more inline with others. If somebody wants one we can back to back test it against standard on the dyno. Price will be £250 fitted and tested for the first person. (£200 normally)
  10. There are viarables of course. But you can work backwards to know the exact airflow. I also have a velocity probe, so know exact gas speeds and where. This backs up my data, and from this, I can work out using the X sectional area of the pipe and the speed an exact volume also if required. I have made 3 versions of our Race Spec intakes. This all costs money, time and effort. Most of which goes without being noticed. And the guy in china polishing cheap aluminium gets credit for making untested crap products selling for £100.   11. I'm not up on Rover's to be honest. But there will be more to it than that, probably room/cost. As said before. It doesn't matter if the pressure is 1 bar or 10 bar the same basic principles apply. An n/a engine effectively has 1 bar of boost, (atmospheric), at 2 bar, (what would normally be seen the 1 bar of boost) if the flow is the same the power output will double. I dare say the rover V8 supercharged is far less efficient than the n/a engine.

As you have found. Look at the "better intakes" I.e. high end £2000+ stuff. Or f1... F1 turbo era etc you will find them. It does seem simple at first, there are more indepth advantages also. I'm not sure how you can see an advantage on a turbo, but not on an intake? The principle is exactly the same. I also looked at this. However the protrusion is the most important part.   13. Hello, To save you wasting time taking it to a dyno. The plenum volume is too large unless the engine is very high powered. If it is, they would probably use a high end intake. The design looks remarkably similar to our earlier designs. These relied heavily on the internals in order to maintain even flow across the cylinders. We later improved on this design. Our intakes have more than £200 in materials. Then there is R and D labour and machine costs, most of the machine costs are no the inside remember, at £695 they aren't near £1k.   14. Whats inside them? Also the plenum is too large. and not the correct shape for balanced flow. Flow testing tells you a lot about flow balance. You need to test this with 4 way EGT sensors. China.

  17. Very true, whp is better, however just remember lots of people with mods will have less whp than 130. Standard cars are around 110whp.
  18. That is actually the "first" original balance mark. It would make the balancing out by a LOT if it was done by accident. A dot of tipex, or marker pen, infact simply holding one side so it warms and expands will all through out the balancing. As I said above, its not damage its just the balance marks from when the compressor wheel was machined. They will have then assembled and done a second, finer balance.

  20. Hello, We have done them in the past. However the problem is knowing how the turbo is sat. We could do a custom one. But to be honest your better off just going ext wastegate on the manifold. They often sound like that unless done correctly. The ones we actually fit are perfect. The ones we send out depend on how well they'r fitted.
  21. I've seen this before I think. It was "home made" by somebody from what I remember. Looks like a Td05 turbo.
  22. I very much doubt anybody would change teams for a single failure, and the team he is going to (Merc) supply the engines to Mclaren. The deal was actually done a few weeks ago anyway. I think he's made a mistake, as this is the team that brought him through his career and into F1, but surely he and his team can see an advantage. He certainly gets more money out of it with open sponsorship. I can only imagine he's doing it for the 2014 rule change and hoping that as engine suppliers they will have a better insite.
