  1. LOL

How do you know it was 450hp? Owners Arse Dyno?

They are fast cars, even at 450hp they will pull on a Starlet easily.

i got the exact same reply from you in a thread 2 years ago about me having a blast with the same supra, its actually just shy of 480bhp, the guy is 38 and has owned it for about 9 years, being dyno'd atleast 5 times at different places. i know the figures are true.

you also had the opertunity 2 years ago to see my starlet go, i offered you a blast if you were ever down my way, or i was up yours, but your 180 never made the road, and you never contacted me if you were down my way.

as i said then, and i say now, my starlet was a toy, a play around, but at 350bhp, against a 480bhp skyline, im telling you right now, the starlet is faster from standing start to 150. there were 4 people that witnessed it, and the supra owner put the word out around my town that i went past him. my car was a toy.

you blab on about big engines this and that, torque this and that. im now driving a 4.2 V8 NA, and my starlet would have wiped the floor with it, but this is my daily car now.

  2. looks decent apart fae the wheels- think Rota's woulda looked better.

on the power delivery vs starlet. i had a blast wi a 450 TT supra in my starlet, and went out past him, didnt start to catch me till 150mph. they are good cars, but overrated, need 500bhp to be classed as "fast" imho.

still a lovely big car, specially on the inside. that flocked dash is sweet.

  3. im kina lucky then, ive got a defender county sw, and it costs me £209 fully comp, its class, yet when i sold my 330bhp starlet, which was insured fully declared, i now have a corsa C 1.8 SRI and the policy is exact same as starlet, i just had to pay an admin fee.

  4. labour cost for an evo is the main reason i never bought one as my toy when i bought the starlet instead.

im sure misibushi quote 16 hours labour for a clutch change, thats at £50 an hour, then parts ontop, obviously a service is a home job, but if you wanna command a decent sell on price, big jobs are garage jobs imho.

oh and just because your mate earns less than you means nothing with regards to how much he can afford to do it, after all, its his mums car, your buying your own one remember.

  5. Been in a 400bhp Type R Impreza, that was just as quick but thats had countless problems compared to the Evo. Been in a 570bhp R32 GTR as well but thats in a different league really.

Labour cheaper? Look how tight are the engine bays on Imprezas?! Loads of labour costs to do what would be simple jobs on an Evo. And theres loads about because they're A cheaper for a same year Impreza and B more common than Evo's. Every man and his dog has an Impreza.

do you know how much a clutch supply and change costs on an EVO ??

impreza labour, is much cheaper than EVO labour, if you are after a stamp in the book.

  6. Are you drunk lol? I'd go as far to say that a well driven 350bhp Evo 5 would rape the majority of other performance cars out there for the same kind of money. I cant get over how much grip they have in the bends its a joke!

what other cars have you been in to compare this? you been in a scooby of the same performance and power? do you think there is a reason why there are alot more scooby's than evo's?

simple answer is, because there better, and parts and labour is cheaper.

  7. aye the plates are fine to use, but still have to register it to uk adress, which is different V5 or summit, and then you get choice to have a uk plate assigned, or to keep the KEZ 9905 as mine is, and to keep it, i then have to send tax, mot(test cert) insurance, covering letter and £25 or summit, i bought my car 13 weeks ago, and its just came back to my house again, asking me to post of more documents again.

its a ballache, and i probably wont buy another car on irish plates unless its another bargain lol

  8. can keep the irish plate, but i think thats where im having bother, as now i have to send, my tax disc, my MOT, which is irish test certificate, and also a copy of my insurance certificate. just to register it, plus i have to pay 325 or summit

  9. and just incase you are planning on keeping it, be aware the transfer from ireland to uk, is not that clear cut, the one i bought still isnt registered in my name by the dvla keep sending my documents back, and asking me to send them al lthe documents they have sent back to me.

  10. just incase my posts arent clear, im not one who believes the starlet is the be all and end all. i bought my car as a toy, and thats what it is, and to be honest, thats all it could be, if i worked shoreside, and actually drove a car everyday, i most definately wouldnt own this car, and would probably own something which is classed in the other end of this discussion(skyline, supra, ps13 etc etc) because the comfort and everything else, will win over the smaller car in other areas.

but for 5k, 30mpg and the smiles. IMHO there isnt very many other cars on the market that would suit what i was after at the time, for the budget.

even if your not out on the road though fella, i will probably be up there around xmas/new year time, and weather permitting your welcome to come and have a shot in my car drive or passenger, i dont mind.

we can even go to this "hill" for a blast, but dont expect to know how many leptons my little bus gets, as the dash only goes up to 110 haha

  11. you need the fcd, if you are running standard injectors, if you have bigger injectors, the man above is correct, you need to reduce the duty cycle, and this bypasses the fuel cut, but for the time it takes to find some1 to set up an SAFC, to buy bigger injectors aswell, thats you spent over £300, might aswell by an emanage, and have it done properly, for when you decide you want more power.

  12. I love how everyone keeps talking about power and weight.... there is something else which makes a huge difference on the road.

    Torque....

A starlet engine will never ever put out as much torque for as much of the time than a larger capacity engine.

I'm now laughing at this thread at all the dreamers going on about beating "400hp" cars... These all measured with an "arse dyno"?

When I get my car back on the road I'd like to see what a 300hp Starlet can do.

when youve got it, i will come a run up to see you if ive still got my starlet, if not there are another 2 starlets in stranraer with big power, and were in kilmarnock once a month or summit just for a run.

i know it souds stupid, but before i got it, i never expected it to be anything like it is, i was expecting it to spin and go nowhere, but in the dry, my car launches, not easy, but with pretty good use of traction.

i had some1 in with me when i had the blast with the skyline, as did he, and before the next weekend, he had told most people in the town about my car, bearing in mind he is a 30 odd yer old guy. so to say he was impressed with the wee shitbox is an understatement.

as you say, power to weight isnt everything, but a 400 bhp skyline is only what, 275 per tonne, and my 330 starlet is 370 per tonne

torque or not, 100bhp will show.
