  1. which 4efte setup are you running, as it would help. the ep91 has a different ecu pinout to the ep82

    I haven't gotten that far yet. I am looking into going turbo. And trying to see what is involved in modding the harness as I might have to do it myself. Anyone you have should be a good starting point just so I can get an idea of how much work is involved. Preference would be EP91 as it would be more likely to get with less miles on it.

  2. 5EFE with Coil Packs

    So I came across one yesterday. The information stated that it was for 95-98. I never really saw one before. Can that engine work with a Gen 1 and if so is it straight drop in or is there more work required?

    The engine i went to look at wasn't too good and therefore its over, I need car by friday so its got to go...

    Why don't you get a regular JDM 5EFE? They should be easier to find or you could just see if you can find a non JDM 5EFE at the breakers.

  4. My guess would be spun bearings. Possibly need new/rebuilt crank shaft and connectors which means removing the pistons. I would recommend getting a JDM engine. Lower mileage engine from japan would probably be your best bet. By the way, which ever way you go< get a new oil pump. If you are doing the work yourself, make sure you prime it before installing.

    Let me know what you need as I may be able to source second hand bits in a few weeks :lol:
  5. Does anyone know of any companies that will make a non fluted glass as replacement for the standard headlights? They don't have to make the whole thing, just the glass. If you know of anyone, please let me know.

  6. Hi Steed, do you have the transmission code/model for that tranny? Also I ,might be interested in getting one so I would like to see if there is an American equivalent or if I would have to order one from across the pond?

    surprisingly so, it's feels a bit hesitant in the lower gears (i think thats because i haven't sorted out the exhaust manifold yet, that next on the list) but in 5th and 6th the top end has noticeably more pull, even on the standard everything.

    that's all for the now, oh i almost forgot, by the end of this week hopefully it'll be a six speed as well.

  8. yeah it's 8 little round ones and 2 arb ones for the paseo and most ep91, however some of the very late ep91 had a differet drop link which bolted to the bar and had only 4 little round ones actually on the wishbone, worth a check.

    Also worth nothing is because of the age of the links i've damaged the top nuts/thread bar and had to order new ones, the cheapest place for them is fensport, to brand new ones (blue print) for £20 delivered. They come with fresh rubber bushes so i guess it never hurts to have spares.

    Regarding the swaybar end links, We have a company in the States called energy suspension that makes polyurethane bushings and the bolt as well. I needed it as the oem bolt snapped in my hand as I was changing it. If you are interested, the part number is enrgy-suspension part# 9.8122 It comes as a kit with the 8 bushings 8 washers 2 sleeves 2 lock nuts and 2 bolts.   9. Just about everywhere you go to shop for tires, there is some kind of table that tells you if you have this size wheel, buy this tire. No where do I see them take into account the width of the wheel. I have seen 15 X 5.5 wheels as well as 15X7.

    Does not the wheel width matter when selecting the size of tire?

    For example, I currently have 15X6.5 wheels. Prior to that, I had 15X5.5 off of a mini cooper. Both called for a 195/50/15. The 6.5 feels planted a lot better to the ground.

    Regarding using the manifold from a bug eyed corolla, can that run on a stock car or would I require aftermarket electronics to make it happy? I have a 94 paseo 5efe and I'm not looking to turbo. I just want to get every drop i can get out of his car.

  11. Paseo update, found faulty fp relay (using the Starlet 4e-fe wiring diagrams) but car had to be towed to get it started. It still wont idle, but it will keep running whilst there is a bit of throttle held!

    I know it's silly question but is the distributor adjusted correctly? Also did you check your air hoses to make sure they were run correctly?

    Sorry for the ignorance, was this car ever sold in the US and does it require a lot of mods? I loked up 4efe on wikepdia and it said that the corolla had a 4efe engine but when I look up corolla's i see no referrence of it at all having a 4efe. they make note of a 4afe though. Just want to make sure this is even an option for me over here.

  13. Can you show me where you could purchase an enclosed cone filter?

    The One in the pic is a cone filter if you want to keep the stock airbox you need to get a panel filter namley k+N/TRD. the cone filter can be made to fit with a cold air feed, but IMO stock air box is best with panel filter unless you get a enclosed cone filter I.e a Bmc
  14. Thanks again Pierros. would you happen to have any pictures of how the pipe was cut. I actually had to swap two tranny bolts to make the down pipe fit (one had a bigger head than the other). It is very close right now and every once in a while when the car is at idle, I can hear it vibrating. I have gone to a couple of muffler shops but obviously not the right one because none have recomended cutting the down pipe. It's more of an annoyance but I want to get that taken care of. By the way, are you using the stock engine mounts are did you try the powerflex polyurethane ones? Do you feel there is a difference between dealer and aftermarket(non poly) mounts?

  15. Thanks for the answers guys. One other question, what is the difference between the 1905 and the 1888 bushings. The 1888 says 34mm and teh 1905 says 31. Do you know if its different between the EL44 and EL54?

    I want to make sure that I get the right ones.

    Also, when you installed the OBX Headers and downpipe, did you have the cut the down pipe? Do you have any issues with how close to the tranny it is? Any recomendations for that?

  16. Take care of it, this and my old Paseo were considered the twins, so if anything happens to it, me and Mikey will come beat you :rolleyes:

    Plans sound good, that only needs a few touches to set it off properly and it will look even better than it does now.

    Do the one thing that Mikey should've done but never did, get rid of that awful manifold heat shield, and replace the mani with an OBX 4-2-1, you'll need to move the cat back about a foot or have the downpipe cut and welded to the cat, but its so worth it, engine bay looks a lot smarter with it.

    Hi Stevo, why would you have to move the cat back or cut the down pipe? Is it because the down pipe hits the tranny?

  17. Found it. The clip for the starter is broken and the connector vibrated off. slipped back on and we are good. I have been runing over some rough roads. New York City pot holes are the worst.

    Thats a tricky one, never really seen a plastic switch to contact with the clutch.

    Really bummed on that one! I hope you find the fault soon, let us know when you do.

  18. Ok, got up started the car just fine. Pulled into the parking lot. Parking lot attendant jumps out of the car to call me asking if I put a kill switch on the car. I have power no dimmed lights. Turn the key but starter doesn't swing. Look for the button by the clutch and its still there. It's plastic is there supposed to be a piece of metal for contact purposes or is it just a plastic switch with electricl contact inside?

    Any way give a push start and it starts. So it's parked in the lot for now. Any ideas or do you think its the starter?

  19. Have you guys found sources for anything Gen 1?

    I am looking at headlights right now and having a difficult time. I wanted to go custom projector but I am being told the fluting of the glass destroys all of the benefits.

    I was actually looking into have lenses made but the cost is very restrictive unless you guys know of someone cheaper.
