    Oil Cooler

deffanlty agree with this so many time peaple over look the thermostat, quick question what are you using the car for? lots of track action etc? as the only thing that worries me is all the extra oil line connection some times 6 or even 8 more, have seen to many time a hose popping off of a fitting breaking only neads to happy once and its good bye engine for that reason i never fitted mine, but if your doing alot of track days then its a must but for strip and road use i cant rearly see the nead
  6. no not usualy but just deppends on personal prefrence
  7. agree with this, looks dope, who cares about the grip it looks hella as fook ;) you may or maynot no this gaz but i suddenly clicked the other day that you roll cage is a cusco item
  8. just what i have always been told to do buy adrian on arp's, i think it was something along the lines of it helps them to settle/seat properly ARP say this in there instructions also, "The studs need to be lubed at the block end as well, tightened hand tight. torque them to spec, loosen them by sequence, an re-torque before use" "Then after 10 heat cycles you retorque them again. This is when the engine comes up to full heat, then cools down again. 10x like that. You dont loosen then tighten as done when first fitted, you just torque them down more. You'll find that they back off around 5-10ft-lbs"
  9. Its to do with the silica content in the forged pistons dude usualy deppendant on what copression ratio you went for, piston slap is nothing to worry about but after very very very long periods of time they can oval the bores in extream cases, if the silica content is low as the less silica content the more the piston will exspand and contract but with less silica there much stronger, heres some info i put on a mr2 forum for some guy on the mr2 forum asking the same question hope it helps Aluminum alloys used for pistons come in a wide variety, with varying degrees of copper, magnesium and silicon content. Though each material adds its own properties to the alloy, silicon content is the main material in the overall characteristics of the alloy and piston. Hypoeutectic – 11% or less silicon content. Hypereutectic – Greater than 12% silicon content. In the piston business hypoeutectic alloys are referred to as low silica alloys, while hypereutectic are referred to as high silica alloys. In short, hypoeutectic (LOW SILICA) alloys posses a thermal expansion rate greater than typical engine block materials. This requires running higher clearances, (which affect engine noise), wear and emissions. On the up side, these alloys are strong and well suited to extreme forced induction applications to be able to run much higher boost levels etc. Hypereutectics (low silica) have thermal expansion rates equal to or less than the surrounding cylinder. Allowing tighter clearances to be run. Unfortunately they are brittle, and less tolerant to high boost pressures. in hign side it probebly means you have a low silica forged item fitted wich isnt a bad thing ;)
  10. I gota say i was pritty sapprised when gaz told me about the arp head bolt issue, arp studs and bolts in genral especialy the lp19 are imo the best money can buy. I spoken to many owners of various companys i deal with tim at tb abbey, andy at serious, adrian at fens, no one has ever had one break on them, I've used them on my build with intedid boost pressures of 2.5bar+ and have full faith in them just thort id add arp's are also fine to re use unless there like the pic above maybe a silly question gaz as im sure you did, but did you torque the head up then put it through a head cycle then loosen an then re tighten?
  11. haha hey drew will do buddy there on my build thread on here now, lol tell me about it the only reason its on there is because its hks, irl try find a arc kit and mod it to fit the 4" intake

  19. Hey all im gav from hasting east sussex i no mark/morph from down my way a met a few of you at events gaz simon and gaz with the 3S starlet. So thort i better introduce my self as i may see you lot about at future meets/events, i got talking to gaz about his starlet and his 3S build at the pod last week end, as i have also been building a 3S clip for the past year, so thort i would post it up for you lot to have a ganders over it , its currently residing in a my mr2 shell, but at some later stage its going to be used in a starlet gt , my aim is to have the fueling side finished after i have run her in and have final map done before the end of the season ready for some strip action to set a bench mark for next year, as im hoping to enter it in the street legal hks series next year, its only going to be for fun but feel i stand a decent chance as i have built the car to run mid 10sec 1/4 runs i have followd a guy in the U.S who has layed down high 9's with smaller spec to mine but we all no what the strips are like (they all run slightly down hill cheating bastards lol). anyway i didnt no were to post this so if one of the mods wants to move to an apropiate section thats cool The peperami build theread ITS A BIT OF AN ANIMAL..!! I hav always had a fassination with cars especialy high perfomance cars,i wanted to start off learning the basics of engine tuning and teaching my self an doing as much as i possible could with out specialist help. So i decided a good base to start from would be a vauxhall i no booo lol,but i spent a few years messing about with GSI corsa's,GTE nova's astra and so on,but i always had this felling for the need for more power and always wanted somthing turbocharged as my next project,i have always been interested in jap cars as theres so many variations of parts and options on the market. So as soon as i turned 20 and had built up a few years no claims i decided on two cars a nissan pulsar GTI-R as i liked that it had 4x4 drive and of course the toyota mr2 turbo for its powerfull race bread 3SGTE engine (same one found in the wrc corrola and celica in the erly 90's,the mr2 won my heart in the end as i fell in love with the looks of the rev3 GTS shape and there pritty rare in the south. So after a few months searching i came across a very tidy mr2 rev3 turbo with loads of aftermarket goodys with in,i went and had a look it was very clean and looked after and a very good price,we went for a spin in it and ohh my god!! never in my wildest dreams did i imagin it was going to be this quick then he looked at me and said thats stock boost buddy,he turned it up to 1bar i thort i was going to die and deffantly neaded to change my boxers,he let me hav a drive it back and i drove like an old women as my hands were shaking still uncontrolebly, after a final inspection (4hrs worth lol) i managed to knocked him down amazing £750,if you wave the ££££ in there face they cant resist sum times,so i took my new pride an joy home some 250miles wich i loved every secound of,and it didnt miss a beat and was soo quick had a nice lil comparisant test lol with a subaru on the way back just to compaire the power lets just say he was rather shocked when i dropped it down a gear and left him lol it was ment to be bought and driven but with in the first week of owning it i had forked out a few grand on sum goodys for her pics from when first bought
