what condition is the manifold in? has it ever been welded? or any cracks in it at all? if not would you take £150? also will it fit ep91? -
the car isnt finished yet, engines going back in mid next week, just wondering what spark plugs and oil i should run it on once rebuilt, and no i wont be running 1 bar running it in but thats what is was running prior to engine rebuild and that what ill run after the run in period.
-
Hi there. Right just had the engine rebuild on my starlet. The car is running 1Bar on standard internals with the TD04 turbo. just wonder what the best Oil, filter, spark plugs and coolant will be for the car? ive heard good things about blueprint parts and NGK plugs but any part number or information would be great. PS i work at halfords so can get trade price on just about anything so would rather the best stuff also is there anything i should do while running the engine in? apart from obvisally not rape it. Cheers Guys

is the rebuilt bottom end still availble as an option?

would you sell just the pistons? if so at what price? cheers -
Right. compression tested my glanza today. car red 150 PSI on cylinder 1 and 4 but number 2 and 3 read around 40 psi. did the oil test and they went up to 60-65 psi. guessing this indicates rings which is what i thought the issue was in the first place. just wondering where to go from here? i dont have the mechanical expertise to do the piston rings myself so guess it will be a garage job. however what parts should i be looking to buy and replace and what is the general cost of all this? any help much apprechiated
-
right. the pistons have gone on the glanza. in need of either a new set of internals hopefully forged. or if anyones selling a forged engine or even standard engine please get in touch
-
sweet, cheers. first starlet and ive had it 2 days haha. its addictive though, hooked already, can see this interest being an expensive one!
-
ahh to be honest that price list really dosent sound too bad! i was toying with the idea of putting forged pistons in, idealy id love to forge the lot but i havent got 900 quid at the moment, infact ive got about 9 quid till the end of the month haha. if youve still got that head gasket lying round at the end of the month ill have that off you, ive got a set of genuine piston rings bookmarked so same goes for those, im a bit sceptical putting it back togeather at the standard spec with it running the td04 and 1bar. might just have to put it back togeather standard then start saving for it to be forged, that was the long term plan in the first place. cheers for the help and advice! and like i say ill have that head gasket off you if its still around towards the end of the month
-
absolutly spot on, thats the exact same issuse as mine. baaaals! haha, ahh well time to bite the bullet! did you replace with standard pistons or put forged ones in? ive got a mate who owns a garage so ill get it compression tested asap. should be able to rent out one of his ramps to get the job done too. in your opinion is it safe to drive about 2 miles to work and back each day? or will that just cause more damage? cheers for that though, ill expect the same damage come the day it gets taken apart
-
So if I was to buy forged pistons is it as easy as just replacing them for the old ones or is there more work involved?
-
ooooo this is sounding expensive, the horrible thing is the engine runs fine, pulls briliantly, its just the oil pissing out the breather, dosent make any horrible or funny noises. what a ball ache!
-
is it worth buying forged pistons and running it with standard rods? or just buy standard pistons and rings again
-
if the rings have gone do i have to replace to pistons too or is it just reccomended to replace them? also what figures should i be looking for on a compression test? thanks for the help, first starlet fucked after 3 days -.- not best pleased but these things happen haha
-
is it much of a job to change piston rings?
-
its got the td04 turbo and map. running 1.0 bar. it made it back from wales no problem and even now the engine has no horible noise and isnt kicking out any smoke from the exhaust, its just the breather pipe issue, how much would piston rings set me back? considering getting it forged and galdmorgan? near cardiff
-
ive owned it for 3 days now, and the filter ran along the front towards the drivers side headlight, there wasnt any excessive burning. i bought it from wales and i live in newcastle i belive whatever problem it is happened on the 380 odd mile drive home
-
ive prepared myself for the worst in all honesty, ill be getting a compression test done towards the end of the month
