  1. By the way, the guy I used highly recommended steering clear of Clifford as they tend to have problems with false alarms etc. After a lot of issues with Clifford he now fits toad or laserline.

Remote start is also illegal (technically TT's are too) and apparently invalidates cat 1 status. If you do go for remote start, make sure you leave the car in neutral every time you get out!

  2. Be careful which alarm you choose as a cat 1 immobiliser will cut two of three circuits when it's armed; the fuel pump, ignition or starter motor. Obviously you need the fuel and ignition circuits for the engine to run.

I had a mate (who's a vehicle electrician) supply and install a new laserline cat 1 alarm for less than £150. He wired the immobiliser so there were two cuts on the starter circuit; this meant the TT could still do its job once the car was locked/alarmed.

  3. by the way those are some nice vids.

This is still my favorite MR2 video though, the cusco gymkhana:

  4. What spec is your black mr2 mate ?

It's a rev 1 hardtop. It had an air filter, exhaust, aftermarket shocks/springs and polybushes when I bought it. I've since fitted a decat, toms ecu and upped the boost to 1 bar. Also have the chargecooler setup from the ST205 Celica to fit along with big brakes. Definitely feels better since I've done the mods but it's not as quick as my old TD04'd Advance. Yes, they handle well but I felt much, much more confident when pushing the Starlet into corners at speed.

Sometimes I contemplate going TD04 with my starlet but think an MR2 would be so much more fun in summer (I know what summer but still) months. How are they in winter actually? My brain tells me they must be pants..but surely with some good winter tyres they could be usable?

As for Rx7's if I was going to be spending that kind of money on running and maintaining a car it would be a Supra. That will be where Im going after the MR2 hopefully its my dream car, once I have a supra it will stay with me for life.

MR2's are not as bad as people make out bud. As said above they're not the correct layout for drifting, and usually they're binned when people try something stupid in them. You can feel them start to step out and you have a very small window in which to catch it. The worst thing you can do is let off the throttle (trust me on this) as you will undoubtedly end up facing the opposite direction... or worse. One thing you will be well advised to do is fit decent tyres whatever the weather.

You're obviously on imoc and there's plenty of info on there...

  5. I only had both for a couple of days... Now the GT is in pieces waiting for people to buy up parts.

Was actually looking at FD RX7's but ended up buying this from a friend for peanuts instead. And now I've got my full bike license I can't see the mr2 getting much use this summer!
