STARLET GT EP82 MISFIRES AT 4000 RPM UPWARDS...HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I Hope Somebody Has Some Sort Of Idea What Maybe Going On With My Gt??

On Last Wednesday I Noticed A Slight Misfire On The Dual Carriage Way When Pushin My Foot All The Way Down On The Gas,

It Gradually Became Worse So I Changed My Ht Leads, distributor Cap,spark Plugs And Rotor Arm To Sort The Problem Today.

The Car Is Now Sweet As A Nut....only Upto 4000rpm When It Begins To Bog Out And Misfire Creating A Juddering Like Feeling Like Before????

The Car Never Stalls Once The Revs Lower,

It Settles Back Normal Tick Over Fine And Theres No Smoke Of Any Sort That Looks Out Of The Ordinary,

I Really Dunno Whats Up With It??

Two Different Mechanics Told Me To Do The Same Thing...which Id Already Done By This Time And That Was To Change Leads Etc...

Has Any Body Had This Sort Of Problem Before???

I Hope Somebody Can Help. Thanks

Hi Bud, The Bottom Far Right(on The Dash Display) Orange Instrument Illuminates Now And Then For Some Strange Reason??at Random Times, sitting In Traffic Or On The Motorway??

Its Only Been Doing It Since This Misfire Problem...

I Sound Like A Clown But Im Unsure What This Light Indicates??

Once I Push The Key Fob Button This Illuminates The Same Light Which Then Goes Out And The Engine Can Start

I Thought It Was Just A Flickery Immobiliser Light??

You Mentioned It Could Be Cutting The Fuel??

I Havnt Touched The Car In Any Way Such As Messin With The Boost Etc....basically Because I Havent A Clue What Im Doing!!

Therefore I Cant See Why Its Started To Do This All Of A Sudden?

I Need To Contact A Reliable Turbo Specialist In The South West But Who To Go To God Only Knows!!

The light on the dash is basically a warning showing that something is wrong...this usually comes on when hitting fuel cut..

Have you modified the car in anyway atal, i.e free flowing exhaust and or airfilter?

HI ROB,

NA I ALL IT HAS ON IT IS A K&N FILTER IN THAT RESPECT,

MY BOOST GAUGE READS IN LB/0'' AND GOES FROM 9 O'CLOCK BEING 20(WHICH IS IDLE)

UP TO 5?? WHICH WOULD BE 2 OCLOCK WHEN ACCELERATING...

I've HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND ITS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE??

IT SOUNDS LIKE A LIMITER KICKING IN BUT WITH THE BONNET OPEN YOU CAN HEAR A MISS FROM THE ENGINE??

A HOUR AGO A LOCAL GARAGE HAD A LOOK....THE GUY WAS JUST KICKIN THE TYRE SCRATCHIN HIS HEAD BASICALLY AND SAID YOUR GUNNA HAVE TO SEND IT TO A SPECIALIST!!

run the engine till its up to running temp, then turn it off and pull the plug leads out. if you got any steam or anything coming out, youll have water in the leads.

and mate, get a proper boost gauge, 5 o clock? wtf?

NO STEAM OR WATER IN THE LEADS OR PLUG HOLES BUD,

THEY ARE DRY AS A BONE AT ALL TIMES...

THE PLUGS ARE NOT WET,ALL THE SAME COLOUR

HOW IS THE BOOST ADJUSTED? TO THEN KNOW ONCE ITS TURNED DOWN IF THIS IS THE FUEL CUT PROBLEM??

NO THERES NO WATER INVOLED IN OR AROUND ANY PLUGS OR LEADS.

THAT IS WHAT IT DOES....THE REVS RISE UP WITH NO BOOST LIKE YOU SAID HOW TO DO IT,THEN THE MISS FIRE STARTS AGAIN AT 4000RPM

TIMING IT IS THEN YEH??

YEH PLUGS LEADS ROTOR ARM AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP,ALL BEEN CHANGED.

HELD THE REVS DOWN SOFTLY SO THAT MY BOOST GAUGE DIDNT BUDGE

AS SOON AS IT HITS 4000RPM ITS MISSING AGAIN BUT ONLY AT THAT RPM...CANT PUSH THE REVS PAST THIS POINT ATALL

ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY...
