Turbo - Need help asap!

Im not clued up on turbos, but my bloke has just brought a new turbo and when he has now took it out of the box to look at it, this is on it:

Now, he thinks this is the waste gate? But this doesn't look right to me? Should it be jaggered like this?

I wanted advice before going back to the seller.

i cant tell from the photo what it is supposed to be of, if it is something on the turbo it definitely shouldn't look like that.

Well i would be wanting my money back on that one, thats a shoddy job at blocking the wastegate to say the least!

I think they grinded the hole out n then hammered a block of ?????? in till it was nice n snug...

how did the sale of that item come about. if they didnt say about that i would give it back if you can. if not just make sure there are no metal bits that can come off.

where did that turbo come from? if thats come from a rebuilders that is a terrible job, was it requested to be ran with an external wastegate?

Yes it was, but it came from a private sale. Brand new.

Il email the guy and tell him I am unhappy with the work on it.

if you requested an external wastegate they should have just welded shut the wastgate flap not slap a massive lump of metal in there to block the hole.

Nope. I've emailed the bloke but as you would expect, he hasnt replied. To be hnest, I dont expect to get a refund anyways.

Well yes it is. He sells many turbos, so puts a picture up of one and then sells of each one he makes. He didnt just have one.

i dont know much about turbos but that is a very bad job of blocking that wategate up! send it back asap!

plus the first pic of what i can see just looks like they have tack welded it and its just broke off.
