turner929
hey,i have just brought a gt turbo and when you boot it the boost is creeping up to 1bar and the ecu is stoping it but the guy before me said it was set to 0.5bar what could be wrong?
Glanza_cl
cold weather! that's just the way with these small turbos and the crappy small wastegates, nothing you can do really apart from port the wastegate or restrict the airflow into the turbo.also if it is going to 1bar are you not hitting fuel cut? turner929
yeah its hitting fuel cut as soon as the gauge reachs 1bar, whats ment by porting the wastegate?
Glanza_cl
you basicaly file a few mm making the diametre of the wastgate bigger meaning more air can escape, some poeple DIY it and use a dremel around the inside and other take it to a professional and get it ported, mines been done but in this very cold weather it sill creeps 0.1 or so. Sparky
1bar = 14.7ish psi so it would be hitting fuel cut as fuel cut is aaround 12-13 psi I believe?HKS or ToyTuning actuator would reduce the creep a bit, but the cold weather doesnt help as the intake temperature is lower!! turner929
if i ported the waste gate wont i be losing bhp?i thought it was proberly the actuator because its creeping half a bar. with cold weather i wouldnt expect to creep that much?
Asad
If you port it, it will just hold boost better and not let air escape.....so the only thing you will lose is bits of metal shavings and you may aswell gwt the actuator while your at it hks ones have stronger springs than the stock..... turner929
the other nosie its making is when you drive like your granny at 70mph it sounds like the blow off valve is going off all the time like a shhhhh nosie all the time but when you nail it the noise's go away and sounds normal so to me it sounds like the waste gate is stayin open a bit all the time(not closing fully)
Asad
Not to sure about that tbh....if you take it apart to port it etc you may find whats causing it?
Sparky
Has it got a Bailey dump valve? They are renowned for staying open slightly on motorways etc
Glanza_cl
that noise at 70 is the dump valve staying open because the spring is too weak to hold it closed.you wont loose bhp from porting the wastgate because all your doing is aiding the flow of air- if anything increasing bhp.the stock actuators are naff, get a hks one of ebay nd it will be with you in a couple of days, once fitted it will probably reduce your creep by half, but no completely solve it. turner929
yeah i have got a baileys dump valve o right cool well at least i no what one of the problems is cheers
Sparky
Ditch the Baily they are pooh IMO
Glanza_cl
^^^ indeed, you can get an uprated spring, but then again you could get a hks, or blitz which are a million times better.
turner929
what dump valve would you recommened ?
Glanza_cl
you can get an uprated spring, but then again you could get a hks, or blitz which are a million times better.there are loads out there, it's all about what you like the sound of. go on you tube and have a nosey around until you find one you like the sound of. RobSR
greddy type RS or type S if you want to run one. personally wouldn't have an aftermarket one at all. recirc or nothing
rorenapier
If you port it, it will just hold boost better and let exhaust gasses escape easier, without going through a bottle neck....so the only thing you will lose is bits of metal shavings and you may aswell gwt the actuator while your at it hks ones have stronger springs than the stock..... Edited so its right....Also the Bailey "wooshing" while driving, give it a bit of WD40, soon looses the "wooshing"
