Nanglebadger
OK, im hopin someone can have a read of the following and perhaps come up with an explanation and possibe solution! Here's the scenario:I currently have an Auto Gauge Tacho on my dash and in an A-Pillar pod i have an Auto Gauge Oil Pressure gauge and an Auto Gauge Volts gauge. They are all wired into the sidelights so as soon as the sidelights are turned on they should light up. Now, around 2years ago the light in the Tacho went gay, it wouldnt always come on when u switched on the sidelights - sometimes it did, other times it didnt - but the two pod gauges DID still light up, and after around 15/20mins of driving THEN the tacho light would decide to function. But once it came on it STAYED on, it never flickered out again, it just took its sweet time to light up.Then around 4 or 5 months ago the light in the oil pressure gauge died aswell. However, as it stayed off permanently i thought this was simply a case of the bulb dying.HOWEVER, last nite on my way home from work, all of a sudden both the tacho and the oil pressure gauges lit up at the exact same instant! now, for the tacho this is nothing new, but the oil pressure light hasnt worked for MONTHS as explained above. all the while the volt gauge has functioned perfectly!so obviously its not the bulbs as it would seem that they can function just fine, so can anyone please explain what the hell is wrong with my gauges or the wiring to the gauges before i scream! my only thought is that perhaps the live feed wire(ss) are faulty and are not carrying a feed to them properly...unless u have been driving for 20mins in the case of the tacho light!!!!help me please UKSC wiring type peoples!Phil. Dan Evans
ok, first thing, take them off the side lights, there could be a number of reasons, the main is because it could be getting wet!get the light wire on the gauges (usually yellow), connect all 3 together, then link them with one wire to something that comes on at night, ie,, dash bulbs etc, try it, if it dont work, re-wire it all and check for loose connections. Glanza_cl
just sounds like some bad connections to me... cant be anything else, either not quite spliced into the line right or the Auto Gauge wiring into the actual gauge is abit naff.all you can do it try and re wire it perhaps take them out connect them up to the car battery to see if they work if they do just re splice or solder in making sure there are no brakes in the line...also while going on about brakes in the line there could be a loose wire in the actual line itself in which case you would need new wires to the gauges or find the brake cut that bit of wire out and re wire etc.
Nanglebadger
ok....first of all....i think my explanation of how they are wired in was inaccurate, when i said side lights i meant that when the side lights come on the gauges do too along with all the dash lights, so i suspect that thats where they are wired in, there are defo no wires in the engine bay, they're all under the dash.....oh joy.second! U GUYS ROCK!i had a feeling it was somethin like this which is a bit of a pain as i am in no way good with electrics but i DO understand wot u have said, a single faulty line in the middle of the wires that has gradually got worse over time would explain why then over time the lighting of the gauges has got worse too.thank u for your input lads, it has been MOST helpful. next step....taking a look at some wires perhaps! thanks!Phil.
