Hi, And My First Question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals, I don;t own a Starlet (yet). However I am looking to buy a Glanza within the next month or so. My first question is that I have seen the link to the Japanese auction site. I was just wondering how safe and secure it is to buy a car from there? The prices seem pretty resonable and apart from the import costs is there anything else I would need to do?

Thanks in advance

Hiya mate welcome to the club, importing is not quite as simple as it seems, i would advise really doing some research into it first.

remember the price of the yen again the pound isn't great

there are quite a lot of costs involved in importing:

there's the car it's self plus any action fee's, shipping charges plus insurance, you have to pay when it reaches the dock, registration charges, mot etc

the lists goes on and on, if you really feel confident about doing it go for it, but if it were easy we all would have imported our cars.

there are a few on here that imported a car them selves and they will be able to give you more info... i would just advise doing lots of research first. :)

Hey mate, thanks for the reply. Yeh I see what you mean about importing, there just seem t be very few Glanza's about within the price bracket I have. I have around £3.5k to spend on one, would like some mods but as few miles on the clock as possible

realy nice car here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FRESH-IMPORT-MODIFIE...%3A1|240%3A1318

i'm sure he would take £3500 cash got some real nice rear parts on it, if i were looking for a v this would be a top contender in my books

That looks like an absolute minter there! Would love that. If only it was the end of the month lol. Thanks for all the help guys, I'll keep looking around on here and toyotagtturbo (I'm a member there too). I'm crap when it comes to haggling for cars, dunno what the best methods are to get the price down. Probably not to be too enthusiastic for a start lol

Hey, I have same advice as others. I did a lot of reasearch into importing here's a rough example of cost. This is based on importing a car thats costs 500,000yen or £2500. This is only a rough guide that i worked out it just gives you an example.

£2500 - Car Price

£700 - Shipping

£320 - Import Duty

£616 - VAT of above 3

£200 - Shipping Agent

£50 - Customs

£38 - Registration

£300 - SVA preparation - i doubt you would need this much but better to be safe!

£180 - SVA Test

£30 - UK Plates - again prob less

£40 - MOT

£120 - Years Tax

So basically the import costs are as much as the car. Hope that helps! :)
