Sonic Terrorist
Currently running a standard 1.3 16v engine in my starlet but im looking for something quicker.Have got a few mechanic mates willing to do the engine swap for next to nothing and was just after some opinions on what would be the best option.Should i go for the 4E-FTE or 5E-FE engine as a replacement? My mates have told me the 5E-FE is easier and cheaper to fit but they are of course about 33-35 bhp less than the 4E-FTE.Also how tuneable are the 5E-FE engines? Mikey Jay
The 4efte is better value for in terms of performance, particularly in how much additional power you can get out of them.I have a Paseo (comes with the 5efe) and have spent a total of about £700 on engine related parts, and seen a gain of less than 10bhp.Need to spend a fair bit of money to get much out of the 5efe, whereas the same money on a 4efte would get you much more. Sonic Terrorist
Yeh that seems pretty steep for such minimal power gains.Just concerned about the 4EFTE blowing up on me after spending a lot of cash on it.
Bourkey
You would have to do a hell of a lot to get a 4EFTE to blow up. They are extremely robust engines. I've only heard of one rod going through the block. You just have to be careful turning the boost up. Make sure you have the mods to support the boost.Bourkey
