Cheap to run, pretty to look at, small-ish, cheapest coupe you will find that has reliability on its side. Its a Toyota - bullet proof unless you mess with it. Insurance is low - just depends on the no ncb. Worth looking into buddy Its only a 1.5 after all.

The only thing that springs to my mind, is a Honda Civic or something alike.

The thing is, under a grand usually means it won't be great condition unless your mega lucky! But Honda's are reliable, and normally cheap to run. Insurance is cheap also. And they can look nice with simple mods.
