Power To The Pound?

Recommended Posts

Howdy all :)

as some of you may know (from my wanted ad) im looking for a glanza :D problem is i cant seem to find one that is'nt 400 miles away or is modified :p

i was wondering if you could give a rough guide (i apologies if such a thing exists on here already!) as to what's required & how much it costs to reach each level of power?

i've alway's owned the french brother, renault 5 gt turbo's, with them it's possible to get 180bhp from just raising the boost & modifying the carb jets to fuel it correctly,200+ hp can be achieved with relative cheapness & ease with the addition of an alloy intercooler (£100) & a t25 turbo (£300-£500) decent flowing (exhaust £200)

im not expecting it to be so easy with a starlet/glanza as you cant tune it at home as they will need re-mapping.

if it's not too expensive i will buy a relatively standard glanza & get the work done myself.

so... what can be achieved with all standard parts but an increase of boost?

then roughly what does it cost & what's needed for say 170bhp,190bhp,200,bhp,220,bhp 250bhp etc

Thanks for reading & thanks in advance for helping a noob :p

never compare a starlet to a r5 lol its offensive to starlets lol

well im really busy at the min so cant explain all mods etc in detail but all i will say is r5's are cheaper and easier to tune than starlets. if you raise the boost past 0.75 bar on a starlet it will hit fuel cut for a start but personally i wouldnt try takinf short cuts. get all stage 1 mods done to it before you raise the boost a lot as well

I have 2 glanzas...

1- My car which will stay- I bought it pretty standard for £2300 (wasnt a minter) with a fmic and then spent a fair amount to get it to like 270bhp (roughly) I spent around 3-4k with labour from nick at tuning developments and bought most my parts used... i still need coilovers and its not the best looking one...

If i could do it again personally i'd save 5k and go and buy a minter forged glanza... it depends what kind of person you are but the cheapest way is to buy it already done for sure...

Here's a little list I did a while ago of some of the parts available on the net:

It's not great but it gives you some idea of prices. Starlet parts can range from very cheap to very expensive depending on what sort of quality you want and wether you prefer to buy brand new or don't mind shopping around for 2nd hand parts.
