chriswoodfto
hey, just on my way home, noticed a wierd noise, i dunno if im being paranoid tho. it makes it when the bov dumps. the bov makes the usuall psssssht noise but at the same time and for the same duration as what it takes the bov to dump theres another noise, the only thing i can decribe it as is,,, you know when you hawk up spit in your throat (sorry for the grim description, lol) it sounds abit like that. you can only hear it when you change gear up from 0 to 0.4 bar. also, doesnt seem to do it when the bonnet is up and im stood reving it? hope im just being paranoid, also when in the car it sounds as if its coming from the left of the engine if your sat in the car, so to the right stood in front, right of the intercooler area maybe?if it matters i changed the bov from standard to blitz one the other day but its been fine till now, also theres no pipes loose going to the dump valve. cheers,

Jae-Glanza
It wont do it from parked up as the turbo wont be under load, same when trying to find intercooler leaks =]
chriswoodfto
cool. im guessing it might have something to do with intercooler as it sounds as if its coming from that area. ive just bought a rx7 tmic off ebay so hopefully that will sort it, how would i check for an intercooler leak? jezza
Maybe you're getting chatter through the air filter. Known as turbo stall.
chriswoodfto
ahh, i reckon its definately sumit to do with air filter or tmic. what do i do to stop the turbo stall?
jezza
some people like the chatter noise (I do) but it's wise to only allow it at low pressure before the dump valve opens. To avoid turbo stall, you will have to adjust the spring tension on the dump valve. Your blitz dump valve should have a threaded rod with a lock nut. Simply unscrew a little and that will sort it. Might need a few atempts to get it spot on.
chriswoodfto
thanks for all your ehlp guys, ill; have a look at the dump valve tomrow, it only started as soon as i put that on so hopefuly itll be that, the cars been awsum since i bought it so im confident itll be sumit simple like that,
chriswoodfto
right, been pout and played with that screw on top of dump valve, no matter were the screw is it still makes that noise. had the bonnet up and reved enought o make the bov dump, made the noise stood still. definately sounds like sumit to do with the induction kit. it wont do anyu damage making that noise will it? shal i just get used to it or any other tips to quieten it down??? DavidAshton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNwspuknXscIs it the above sort of noise but not as loud?If so thats defo turbo chatter, the spring in the bov will be too hard to let the valve open at low boost. IF you really want to fix it a softer sping would do the trick or a different bov. Also replacing your induction kit with the stock air box set up will stop you hearing the noise (although it will still be making it) the air box will muffle it. chriswoodfto
dont know to be honest as the noise happens exactly the same time as when the bov dumps air, it doesnt really make that chatter noise when idleing. its loader the lower the psi, when full throttle it doesnt make the noise when bov dumps air,its only when changing gear up to about .4 bar.or when changing gear at higher bar say up to 0.6, this happens when you dont have foot to the floor though. just steady acceleration.dont wana get rid of the induction kit, its a hks one with the short relocation pipe, (im planning to up boost when my intercooler turns up) and ive just bought the blitz bov so as long as its not doing any damage il just live with the noise. its not a bad noise just wondered what it was adn why it was making it... chriswoodfto
werte would i get a softer spring by the way? when i moved the screw in the top of the BOV, it improved when i screwd it out, but i couldnt screw it out any more as it would have come off. so maybe it is the screw thats too hard? chriswoodfto
sry t bmp, just want to sort it, i know people will help if they can but you might not see post further down. cheers.
Russleh
not get at least a sound recording on something. would help. but from readin the above it sounds like turbo stall / chatter. if im right it should chatter on lowish boost and dump on higher boost. im far from an expert but dont the standard ones recirculate some air so if you changed it instead of recircing it would just chatter through the turbo if the bov couldnt get it out fast enough ? chriswoodfto
cool. ill try fitting the standard bov tomorow see if the nosie goes. ive also emailed the guy i bought the bov form to see what bar he was running as the blitz springs are under 0.8 bar, 0.8-1.2 bar. 1.2 bar and above. see if he knows, im gona buy one of the springs fofr 0.8-1.2 as im gona up boost to 1 bar when i get the intercooler fitted next week. think it is the chatter, that doesnt do any damage im guessing as from whats said abovew people quite like the noise. thanks for all your help as im sure i sound like a complete amateur, lol.
