Head Gasket Noise

hi all my friend lost comp on pots 1 and 2 and also starting tapping but only when reved up, so we took the head off to have a look to find the bit of gasket between 1 and 2 was missing just wondering if it would of been detting across the two cylinders to make the tapping noise just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Does sound like it was deting especially if the gasket has blown between cylinders has he touched/moved the distributor before, makesure he sets the ignition timing to 10btdc, may want to also pop out the pistons whilst the head is off & check to see if the ringlands are ok, (the bit of the piston which is in between the rings) as they normally break off

ok mate cheers for the help will have a look at the rings but there was no smoke from the car also it lost compression about 5 mins after the lamba sensor fell out dont know if that could of coursed the head gasket to go?

nah doubt that would have caused it to go, would have just ran super rich and possibly a bit lumpy. make sure a metal head gasket goes back on

also just drop off the sump and check there are no metal pieces in the oil

better to check then not

didnt think it would have, we gonna stick a steel one on there because its got a td04 kit on it cheers for the info fellas :surrender:

If it's got a full td04 kit is it mapped suitably to run it properly? As you may blow another head gasket or worse if not.

i was geting that noise from my old engine...blew the h/g to shit between the 3rd n 4th cylinder
