Ep91 Overheating

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm having a few issues with my 97 Starlet at the moment, I'm unsure whether they're related or not.

First off, when I push the car a bit hard (70 on flat, 60 on an incline) the temperature gauge starts to rise. I've checked a few things, namely:

- Oil level

- Radiator fan (seems to be on quite a lot though)

- Air filter

My second problem is that my cabin fans only seem to work on the highest setting - the middle settings don't do anything.

I'm not sure if these two problems are related. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Cheers

Andrew

sounds like ya rad cap isnt holding pressure there about £6 from you local motor factors and the fan is a fubard rheostat there usually in the passenger foot well but not sure on the starlet the reason it only works on fast setting is because fast is connected direct to the battery were the other settings are through the rheostat.

your thermostat is probably frubard, does the car loose water or anything of the sort? is the power still there? start ok?

It's not been losing water or the like, and it starts okay. Thermostat's probably the answer - the radiator cap seems pretty firmly sealed. Where is the thermostat on the Starlet? I can't find an engine diagram for this car for the life of me!

Cool, I'll try and source one of these things later.

Cheers folks!

Well, I bought a cap and a thermostat and changed the cap straight away since it was easy. Guessing I'm going to need the thermostat, it's still heating up. :)

Next up... where can I get a resistor pack? Anyone know the Toyota part number?

Edit: Scratch that, I found the part number. Still, a Google turns up no one?

Edit 2: Scratch that again, got one order from my local garage for next Friday.
