Turkish91
Right where to begin... Cars been playing up the last few days, wouldnt start so got a new battery, fitted it and it starts all the time now. But, only for so long... read on.Yesterday I was fiddling round and noticed some green sludge under the bonnet, all round the intake and bulkhead - put this down to a CV rubber being split and its just sprayed it everywhere! Now my main problems are, the belt off the Alternator has been squeaking since I bought the car, WD40d it up and it went away but now even with the new battery the charge light is on constantly. So I guessed the alternator was fucked but after actually looking at it, the belt has either snapped or fallen off!! So my question is what else runs off that belt? Reason being, my car is now overheating (can hear it bubbling like fuck from the expansion tank when stopped) and the dial reads anywhere between half and off the top of the scale. I was just wondering if this lack of alternator belt would have something to do with it?? Heaters are cold as well - did this on the way to work the other day but suddenly dropped down again and started blowing hot about 3 miles down the road. Thermostat? Or worse?? Fan is constantly on too. The whole time Ive had the car the temp gauge has only ever gotten about a third of the way up the scale, even when driving it hard.
micky boy
The reasion its over heating is because the Alternator also runs your water pump..
daz gt turbz
water pump runs off that belt! dont drive it mate till its sorted, and dont spray wd40 on belts as it does stop it squiking because the bottom pulley will be going round and the belt will be spinning on it and not turning the alternator or water pump. Lee_EP82
Pretty sure the water pump is run off that belt also, so that might be your problem.
Ryan-11
the altanator belt also runs the water pump, uve prob cooked your engine, chances are u have blowing your head gasket and posibly warped the head and/or block

daz gt turbz
What a fucking cunt, that has fucked me off something rotten!!! Grrrrhow long you drive it / been driving it when its been over heating? hate to say it but putting wd40 on it could probably be the culprit of it coming off!
Turkish91
Drove it probably a maximum of 10 miles with the charge light fully on all the time. I sprayed WD on it last night before going to bed, so Im guessing it slipped off half way to work which is 4 miles so thats 2. Went to Whitnash from work which is about 3 and then back home again tonight so another 4 = 9 miles. Problem is I left the car to warm up before leaving work, probably for 5-10 mins!! Each time I drove, it'd been off for a few hours in between each journey so I'm hoping all is well.
