thinking of getting a paseo

Recommended Posts

bad points, check the rear petrol tank and filler neck for rust, rusty petrol tanks are comon on the high mileage neglected ones

also check to see if its smoking or burning oil on the 5efe, again, the seals can go on hi milers, happens when the oils never been changed, or changed rarely.

not much else apart from that to be honest, the paseo should have been as popular car as the starlet, theyre sort of better in every way(you sit lower, feel sportier, same glanza inteoroir),

gal will be by to fill you in the the cosmetcs side of things

As already said, check the fuel tank for rust, they tend to get holes toward the top of the tank, so so long as you don't fill it to the brim, alls fine. Again the burning oil, not seen many past 100k that don't burn oil, but if it has been thoroughly maintained throughout its life it shouldn't be too bad at all. The 150k miler I bought doesn't burn oil at all. Still original engine too.

Check the rear arches for rust patches around the sill of the arch. You rub these down and they aren't rotted through yet, but don't leave them too long. Some have it, again it just depends on what kind of life it has had.

The bootlock swivel Toyota emblem would probably have snapped off, this is just a cosmetic downside, some have them some don't, it depends on how the owner has handled it. This does not effect the mechanism, just shows the lock barrel behind it. If you do get one with a swivel badge then be sure to use the release catch in the drivers footwell and save from breaking it.

The rear shocks tend to go if they haven't been regularly maintained (that or driven over cobbles..) so just check for the leaking and also inside the boot, pull the grey covering out and check the rear top mounts too.

Interior wise, as Geo said, they have the same style seats as the Glanza usually in the blue/grey/green colours, unless you find a Cynos with the grey seats with little red bits about them.

And when you get it, pics are a must boy!

On the lips and things, you can go down the route of the OEM Toyota stuff (either Cynos aero kit or the UK Spec kit).. these are found in the Catalogues in the Facts & Figures section.

Other than that, there are Booster Tuning stuff from Germany, TTE front lip (rare!!) and then some big bodykits. Mayr tuning did a nice bodykit, as did Astina, but these are pretty rare. I'm off on a road trip to Germany at some point this year (if not next) so i'ma grab what I can from breakers.
