oil light problem

changed rocker cover on my v yesterday drove around fine all evening then had it turned off for few hours went shop last nite and oil light kept coming on and fading away again

checked it for oil and all seemed ok kept happening coming home to

now checked for loose wires or anything cant find anything light only coming on now it goes off if i rev the car past 2000 and goes off when it drops

clean pcv vavle started oil light came on but then faded away after few seconds ??

first thing to try as it is cheap is to replace the oil sender. the old one may be playing up. if it still does it then it would be worth checking the oil pressure relief valve next to make sure it isnt jammed open or something silly.

failing that your oil pump could be on its last legs or your bottom end is very worn.

if it is anymore than the sender then i would replace the bottom end bearings while the sump is off if there isnt already damage to the crank.

hmmm no i had the exact same problem, russel h pointed out that the water temp sender and oil pressure connectors are very similar, switched them around and it solved the problem. the oil light should be rather on or off, it shouldnt fade away.

i had a problem like this on my sportif. Does the oil light flicker or come on only on idle?
