Sparky
I had this when my engine went Dont know if this is related but my ringlands were going and it sounded like a scooby, sort of off beat and also if you left it ticking over the revs would drop as you say and the oil light would flicker. It could just be the pressure switch acting up or it could be the sign of an oil pump failing. nastyrash 2003
this is typical bottom end warning, check oil presure before doing anything else.

Lukew360
Is a 700rpm idle not a bit low? Mines at 1000rpm dead on.
ollie ryan
my old engine did this at it was piston rings failed
daz gt turbz
my car did this years ago when it started to idle realy low, it turned out that the idle screw had slipped causeing it to idle low which means that the oil pump isnt being turned over fast enough to make the right oil pressure. like you said when you rev the car it goes off, so try adjusting the idle screw so it idles at a nice 1000rpm and see if it still flickers, if it does then something isnt right.try this before you start worrying about piston rings ect . . mines been fine since and its been a good 3year since it happend.
