wssoR
If it's just a small amount (couple of mm's) then it will be fine.
jezza
I believe the general rule is that minimal side to side (axial) play is OK up to a point but in out play is a no go.You get the best sense of movement using both hands on either turbine and move together.

jezza
If it is moving that much I would expect the blades to be fouling the housings? Do the blades have any damage?
tez
it doesnt foul anything so to speak. maybe slightly on outside of inlet housing. How much is a rebuild on these? can you do them yourself?and turns freely. There is slight play in the inlet blade about 2mm.The wastegate also has a crack in it? Starbuck
They have to be balanced. So unless you have proper equipment, then no you can't rebuild them yourself.
jezza
I rebuilt one using a speedvision rebuild kit. It can be done without balancing but would not be as good. My cousin rebuilds turbo but it would most likely cost more than picking up a descent low mileage one. Think you should try get a refund and find one in better condition.
