Chassis Codes - Explained

The Gen2 Paseo/Cynos is commonly known to petrol heads as the EL54 (or L5 shortened commonly used in some European countries). But it is a little more complex.

The EL platform is close to that of the Starlet, Sera and Corolla - Sharing much with each, hensefourth often nicknamed Corolla (or Starlet) Coupe.

Codes and Referances:

EL52 - Commonly on JDM Cynos Juno models. This means it has the 1.3 4efe engine with an automatic gearbox.

EL52c - Commonly on JDM Cynos Juno Convertible models. This means it has the 1.3 4efe engine, automatic gearbox and is in Convertible form.

EL54 - Common accross most countries Paseo and Cynos. This means it has the 1.5 5efe or 5efhe coupled with a manual gearbox.

EL54c - Commonly known in the US and Japanese markets. This is the 1.5 5efe/5efhe models with manual gearbox, but in Convertible form.

'Convertible' - No model name for the Convertible, with 1.5 5efe engine and 5 speed manual gearbox

Facelift - No amazing changes with 1.5 5efe engine and 5 speed gearbox

Engine Code Explanations

4E-FE - 1331cc engine producing 88HP 87ft-lbf (118 N-m) Torque. Available in Japan and Australia (and possibly other countries). This is a rare engine for the Paseo/Cynos.

5E-FE - 1497cc DOHC engine producing 93HP 100ft-lbf (136 N-m) Torque. Available across the world. Most Paseo/Cynos models have this engine. See above for exact models and engines.
