fattony
didn't you say they did the cambelt?? very bad incorrect timing = bad times! thats what it looks like to me! I assume some of your valves also look like they are trying to limbo dance?!!
fattony
side note, i actually dont know if these motors are the interference type, so timing 'might' not of caused but, thats just what it looks like!
turbochris
didn't you say they did the cambelt?? very bad incorrect timing = bad times! thats what it looks like to me! I assume some of your valves also look like they are trying to limbo dance?!!Yeah but i got it wrong, sounded like he had on the phone but turns out he didnt get that far. The valves all look fine as far as I can tell. It taken a tiny chunk out of the block because of the rod im guessing
Asad
none interferance so the valve should be fine go speak to them if they wont help you out, do as rubix says
fattony
you sure they didnt do it, and their just saying they didnt get that far? did you supply the parts to them? if yes, ask to see them! either that or you've gone deaf because there aint no way on the planet you could have driven a car with a rod doing the crazy banana dance like that!! that would have been knocking its tits off!! sorry dude! turbochris
Im not to sure tbh, I didnt provide the parts. He was abit sketchy afterwards but he only charged me for the cooler and the oil so if he did it he didnt include it in the cost. Im just gunna take the bits through tomorrow and see if hell do the decent thing.
Lukew360
It's so obvious that they did the damage mate so don't doubt yourself. You would of known instantly if it was like this when you drove it in.They've fitted the cooler then ragged it on a test drive.
james@cjperformance
Wont be anything to do with the belt mate, i would not be surprised if they try telling you some bull about boost after they fitted the cooler. rpm kills rods and boost kills pistons.if they try telling you that it was caused before you got there id shove the rod somewhere it shouldnt be
carmen
As all the others have said your car has been raped by the garage before or after the oil change more and likely after the oil change and the person who took the car out would of just jumped in ragged it through all of the gears on the redline and the bent road is the case. The only other way this would happen which is very doubtful for a motor car is the engine has been kept on a high load for a long period of time I.E a few hours for example Aberdeen to London doing over 120 MPH which would be fine for somthing like a Aston martin not a starlet. So best thing is to take a guy from trading standards down to the garage with you also some advise for every one if you ever take your car to a garage especially ones who deal with modded cars get a pre work assessment carried out and health check of the car, log your cars mileage and keep records of any work done to the car either from your self or a garage so if anything goes to s**T its their fault. I had a case like this with a old mk2 golf owned and a German car specialist replaced my throttle cable and alot of other work and two days later the cable had snapped and he tried to say i tampered with it and it was my fault but i took pictures of the car before and after is came out the garage to prove i never touched it and also with the help of a AA guy he said it was routed wrong then he tried a heep of tech bull about the car and he went all red faced when i told him i am a mechanical engineer and what he said made no sense so i want it replaced so they are defo at it my friend i hope it goes well for you and you get the car fixed
Starlet__SR
Gutted matey, sorry to hear it! This is why I never take my car anywhere! If you need a hand with the car or anything give us a shout as i'm only in worksop. On another note, is it not worth taking the rod and a mate down to explain the situation? Explain that no such damage could occur from an oil change. For something like that to happen it wouldnt have been the high rpm that killed it, more like the sudden change in inertia. turbochris
Cheers for all the replies guys! Gunna go see him in the next few days and see if he's willing to pay for the new parts. Thanks Starlet_sr thanks for the offer, I'll let you no if I get stuck (I probably will do) If he isnt willing then I shall name and shame and get trading standards involved. Thanks everyone!
