import charges - do you have to pay????

thinking of importing a couple of bits from japland but am a bit in the dark as to what kinda import charges id be hit with??

have had a little read of some articles and a couple of them say that theoretically, if the part cannot be obtained at all in the uk then you should not have to pay any kind of import charge.

is this true? if so, how could i prove that i couldn't get the part here?

speak to Lew777 he has imported a few bits and has delt with the import charges

All depends what your ordering I had a sard rrfpr from jap land they sent it as a gift with a value of $20 or less and you don't have to pay import duties if it's s gift

it's 20% of ths cost of the product. you don't pay import tax clothes and food.

20%+4% duty, depends on what your ordering, if you speak to the person your buying from ask them to put the waybill at a lesser value and you will be unlikely to be hit by customs.pretty much all of my products come out of the states so deal with it day in day out

ive had bits from all over but tbh it just seems like pot luck ive ordered a spoiler from japan and didnt get charged. then ordered

gauge pods and got charged just depends really ive never paid over £25

Thanks for the advice guys i think the plan could be to ask the sellers very nicely to either mark the package as a gift or say that its of a lesser value than it actually is ;)

if its 20% +4% its gonna cost me another £150 or so on top of the cost of the item
