Taggy Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Got a couple of questions on which places require instant gasket when putting the engine together, i know the sump needs it but on removing some other parts i noticed that they had sealant them too, in particular on the clutch side where there is a plate that bolts on which goes around the crank, does this need some? And also i noticed the cam caps on the every end, the last ones at the very side of the block, seem to have instant gasket on them too.Can someone clear this up for me Quote
Socks Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 The sumps are a full on CUNT to seal... When torque down from new they Bend...Use a hammer and get the lip as straigth as you can, you will save yourself taking it back off again! Quote
Asad Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Sump/oil pump/crankshaft seal (gearbox side)/around the cam near the pulley....cam cover too where it curves...cant think of anywhere else... Quote
Socks Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Make sure the surfaces are de-greased too Taggy or it wont stick! Also allow it 48hours to fully harden before even putting any fluids in! Quote
Asad Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 X2 ^dont spare the brake cleaner/tissueUse a good sealant too, which have you got? Quote

glanzagee Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Thermo housing part of the oil pump, rear main seal , rocker cover water pump bracket back of block cam caps Quote
glanzagee Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Cam caps so you want to go into detail did you know when putting the sealant on the intake side n/s cam cap there's a risk of blocking the oil feed to that cam !!!! Quote
