A L 3 X
Looking at getting a T- piece oil pressure adaptor to use from the standard oil pressure sensor as I can't fit a sandwitch plate with my setup, does anyone know what size thread I need?
Flaminsam
I believe its 1/8npt? Don't quote me though. :/
A L 3 X
I don't understand it all lol I saw on eBay a Toyota one which was 1/8 boat or something but didn't specify starlet :/Anyone know for certain?
JayJ
I'm quite sure the port on a block is 1/8 BSPT. Most of the aftermarket sensors are 1/8 npt, so you have to find a adaptor. Avoid cheap ones, because there is a high risk to mess up the threads. Don't overtighten!
A L 3 X
Any links to where a good one can be sourced?
JayJ
This was recommended on TGTT http://www.speedflowshop.co.uk/18bspt-taper-adaptor-5000-tp8-1240-p.aspMaybe some ebay items are good enough too, if you just don't choose the cheapest one. :-)
A L 3 X
Nice one mate, does that have room for both a pressure and temp sensor?
steve-gers
I used this
A L 3 X
That's what I need mate but I want oil pressure and temp? Any ideas?
steve-gers
you will need a sandwich plate but they don't fit properly on a 4efte so you need to either grind the power steering bracket a bit or the plate itself. If it was me I'd just put an oil filter relocation kit on as it's in a bad place anyway.
JayJ
With both of those t-pieces you can use a standard pressure switch + one extra 1/8npt sensor. If you have aftermarket pressure and temp sensors with 1/8npt thread, you will need to add another t-piece for these sensors. In this case you will need both of these or one from steve-gers link + thisIntall like this:This pic is a bit bad, but first adapter fits to block. Second adapter fits to side port of the first adapter. Standard pressure switch / bolt fits to end of the first adapter. Aftermarket sensors fit side and end ports of the second adapter. Got it? A L 3 X
Ah yeah got it exactly, will it give the correct pressure and it ok with the angle of them all? Will get them ordered if all is good, just worried about destroying the thread now lol
JayJ
There shouldn't be any problems with the correct values, because oil will transfer heat and pressure to the sensors even the oil is not actually running pass the sensors.Just remember to use some sealant for threads and don't overtighten :-)
A L 3 X
Sealant as in loctite? As what torque are we talking roughly? Also I've read somewhere some temp probes are too long to fit in these things, is that correct?Cheers
JayJ
Loctite 565 or teflon tape will do. Sender unit needs to earth through the body, so Loctite would be better. If you have electrical temp sensor, then there will be fitting issues with t-piece, because they are quite long :-/
A L 3 X
I'm not sure which one mate, will be either depo or prosport gauges if that helps? I've seen a wider one on eBay let me link to it
JayJ
I found this pic from TGTT, might be worth the job You need to remove bolt from the oil filter housing and find a bolt that has a threaded hole in it, but I don't have an idea what the outer thread should be :-/
A L 3 X
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=300797397692&cmd=VIDESCLike this, but obviously the output and one input needs to be 1/8 bpst
A L 3 X
Ooh that looks interesting, you got a link?
JayJ
http://www.toyotagtt...es..help-pleasehttp://www.toyotagtt...-pressure-clockAs mentioned in those threads, oil temp won't work with t-piece :-(edit: http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?51371-Oil-Temp-and-Pressure-Sender-Fitment Edited October 31, 2012 by JayJ
A L 3 X
Ah will it not?Fuck it I think ill go for oil pressure on a t piece and afr gauge then?
JayJ
You can try, but there is a high chance that the probe is too long and won't fit in t-piece
A L 3 X
Ah I see, I think ill get an afr as its probably more worthwhile
A L 3 X
Right, got my oil pressure gauge and tee fitting ready to install tomorrow, but first...a few questions...1. How tight do these bits need to be done up, say how far along the threads as obviously they are tapered threads?2. Is loctite blue a suitable thread sealant?3. I've read online due to the weight of these things it can snap and cause engine failure(with the brass fittings I read) now my tee piece is silver and looks more like alloy but basically is this a safe way to do it as it shouldn't be that much weight surely
