Original ECU

Can the original ECU be mapped, tweaked about with in anyway? I am under the impression it can be, only to a certain level, is this right? I'm not planning to mess around with it but just wanted to know just out of sheer interest? Thank you guys

yes, but from very few jap tuners, the plug and play ECU we know (mines, jam, tom's etc.).
