Basically had the car jacked up the other day changing wheels over and a mate of mine who works at a garage noticed that the wheels front and back move up and down whilst jacked up its on standard springs and shocks has no side to side play and he's convinced it's a fail is this true and if so can some one enlighten me to the problem causing this

Thanks

in what way do they move up and down, on the top mounts? or the wheel bearings?

if it the top mounts and they have a bit of movement should be ok, but wheel bearings they will fail

Not the wheel bearings recently done just on the shock and spring apparently I shouldn't be able to that :/

as long as the car dont excessively bounce it should be fine dude, unless you get a harsh tester, i have never failed a car on that sort of thing, only if it bounces more the 1 and half times

Of course there going to move up and down, thats the movement of the shocks if im right in the way im reading what you mean. Do you mean the whole lot moves or like just the shock?

i think he means, that when they out the bar under the wheel to check for freeplay in the top mount, the springs are not torsion enough to stop them going up and down, which is not a failure

Basically he could lift the wheel up whilst the car was jacked so basically compressing the spring and moving the shock up the top mounts don't move either does the wheel bearing and he's admiment it will fail and be works at the testers garage

i have had that before, i asked my step because he has been a tester for years, and he said, what can you fail it on, im pretty sure like corsa's do it to, if your worried bud, grab some new shocks, but i would take it there and see how it goes

When i had my car lowered the rear springs were loose meaning that u could lift the rear wheels just compressing the shock until the spring met the top mount. It never got mentioned in the MOT and went through 3 mot's like it
