I have same car, drive in 2nd. When u start in D your starting in 3rd gear so imagine the car is slipping the clutch to get u moving. I drive everywhere in 2nd. A corolla inlet manifold helped loads with the drivablity as standard the cars way too dead to have a auto box.

If u havnt done it already u must change the gearbox oil which helps loads too.

Think of the gearbox as a 3speed manual with a automatic clutch and it should make sense.

Mine does 0-60 in 10seconds and hits 120mph no problem with the corolla manifold. I get 40mpg with normal daily driving. Best of luck with the car
