boosting24/7 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I am getin my forged engine delivered Monday, whats the best engine oil to run it in with? And whats the best oil after it ran in, Thanks Quote
David-Starlet Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Millers do a good 10w40 mineral oil for running in the engine when its run in id use millers 10w40 fully synthetic oil Quote
Gav_kara Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Run it in hard mate we build engines and after 3 warm ups and oil change it gets mapped on Dyno. Old school bedding um in is they wring way it's a proven fact search it. As above about oil grade. Quote

Lew91 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 When you say run it in hard what exactly do you mean and after how many miles? Quote
Ryan-11 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Pretty much give it shit straight away (when warmed up) have a read of this http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Quote
RobSR Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Rev it basically. then start giving it some boost after a couple of hundred miles so the bores dont glaze over. Quote
Lew91 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Shit, seems pretty harsh but I guess the logic is there. Quote
Gav_kara Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Give it boost straight the way we just done a c20let corsa at 1.5bar after 30 mile on fresh forge lump not so much reving um more of hard power and load. All this running in for so many 100miles is bollox and wrong way round.. Quote
glanzagee Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 before doing any off the above ask your builder how his prepared the bores ;) Quote
Lew91 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Says in the link to change the oil after the first 20 miles to clear out any wear and tear filings? Basically build it with mineral oil and use that to run in the first 20 miles after a long warm up then change it to fully synthetic or more mineral? Then just drive it hard for a few hundred miles? Quote
Gav_kara Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 As above as long as its mapped don't forget and all fuel ect is good and fresh Quote
Lew91 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Mine will be a completely fresh build any way so everything will be checked and triple checked. Cheers for the info Quote
DevonGT Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 All this running in for so many 100miles is bollox and wrong way round.. It isn't bollox as it works. Quote
DevonGT Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Do research buddy!! I have have and all my engines are still going strong. Quote
Gav_kara Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Didn't say they wasn't mate but it's a proven fact to run um in hard as it beds rings to bore better as tolerances and bore hachings are more advance now days than older days hrnse used old method. It's all proven on net and videos ect Quote
RobSR Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Both proven just personal choice. ^ Indeed, theres not really a right and wrong way. depends how you want to / what you want. Quote
