Right guys gotta change head gasket on my starlet, bought an engine of someone as a "good engine" so just dropped it straight in to find out the head gasket is fried!


So.. What like of a job is the gasket change with setting up timings etc and what gasket would u advise on using?

Its quite quite a big job mate. but not imposible to do if u know your way around the engine. Am sure there should be a wiki on it on here. best to see idrees for a gasket he will point u in the right direction for the best gasket for your setup and can order it straight up for u. ;)

Providing you have some mechanical knowledge its fine. Take pics of every stage, keep things in order, label things if you need to. Just stay organised and its a doddle really. The timing is a piece of cake, nothing to worry about, and if you get it wrong it won't do any damage what so ever as they are a non-interference engine.



Whats your setup? You'll most likely be fine running a stock gasket. Make sure to get the head skimmed though.
